Big Idea 2013: Why Young People Will Rescue the Economy

There has been a major shift in the way business is viewed by the general public and entrepreneurs are now seen as creative and exciting role models. As a result more and more young people are looking to set up their own business. So I believe that if we want to see the economy to flourish once again we need a renewed focus on youth entrepreneurship.

Young people just starting out on their chosen career path have probably paid the highest price for the recent recession, but actually they are the ones who will help us rebuild the economy and create jobs.

There really is a world of opportunities out there for young people. The rise of the smartphone and the tablet are part of the latest digital revolution which is constantly opening up ways for businesses to connect with potential customers. These devices are now integral to a brand’s communication strategy.

More young people can harness their skills around this opportunity to serve the demands in the market.

The Government is well aware of the need to grasp this trend and have launched various initiatives, such as the Start-Up Loans project which offers 18-24 year olds funding and quality mentoring to get them started.

I have been working closely with the Government on this all year, but one of my frustrations is that often the message does not reach the right people. So I would urge anyone looking to start a business to do thorough research and find out what resources are available to them before embarking on their journey.

Going into business transformed my life and I would highly recommend to anyone with the passion and drive to create their own future and simply go for it.

More importantly I would like to invite more business leaders and entrepreneurs to offer their time and insights to the next generation of entrepreneurs. They really can make a huge contribution to young people on their journey to success.

I didn’t have anyone guiding me when I started out; there’s no substitute for experience and knowledge.

Also if the business community starts to think and act more positively I genuinely believe that their sentiment will have a massive impact on UK business confidence.

I’m confident about the outlook for 2013. The more people there are setting up firms and enterprises the more jobs and wealth will be created, and what we’ll see is a virtuous circle. By fostering a culture of vision, venture and creativity we can help create a more entrepreneurial society, and I find that an exciting prospect.

Enjoyed this Article... As Gen Y, l prefer to work for a start-up / SME rather than for a Fortune 500 company due to vast exposure and learning opportunities.

Please explain how the *smart*phone (so-called) and the tablet are going to create more start-ups and rescue the economy? I view them as toys that distract. If you said the Internet and even the humble fax machine (invaluable at times) then you might have a point. I fear however that it is mere 'stuffing' of nil value to spin out your assertion. Indeed "It is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing.". Please re-write leaving out the politically correct jargon.

I'm a boomer, but I don't feel like I have any control over the way things are done. I can only find Contract work and have no leverage in my job and my employer has no commitment to me. I think that the coming generations will be more energetic and more creative than previous generations; I think that has always been the case. But they will be hard pressed to produce visionaries like Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Michael Dell and great Companies like Microsoft, Apple, Dell, Intel, IBM, GE. The new Generation will need to follow in the foot steps if the individuals noted above or contribute to those companies. I don't think we have created the mess, but I hope youger generations pay attention to our government and not let it dictate how it is run. I could go on but I'll spare you all the repetition. We all know don't we???

I think you are spot on. I also think the biggest challenge is for the "Boomers" to let go go of the control they exercise (and I include myself) over the way things are done and recognise that Gen Y look at the world completely differently. With reference to Einstein's quote about solving a problem with a different intelligence to the one that created it, Gen Y are just what we need to get us all out of the mess we have created.

I like your background pic very very much. Why young people will rescue the economy? I think the reason is that young needs to live in a good life, they must live in a good way. So they need to rescue the economy. Also they have potential. Agree? If don't agree, pls @madeinchina_b2b to make further discussion.
