Why I'll Never Attend Another Women's Conference
In a word? Booooring.
Why talk about "women's issues" in a room full of women?
Sure. Sometimes it feels good to walk into a church and scream "God is great!" and have everyone shout "Amen." But it probably feels better to baptize a convert.
Maybe that analogy doesn't quite work....but my point is the same: its boring to preach to the choir.
So, I'm drawing a line in the sand: no more women's conferences (or "women's panels" in the middle of your big boy conference) for me. Its not helping anyone to put us on a pink couch with a pink microphone in a pink room...down the hall from the pinstripes.
Invite us to part of your panel. Stick us in the middle of your conference. (And don't just ask us to talk about work/life balance, fashion, and equal pay.)

Isn't a part of the problem relying on others to fix this issue for you? If someone is organising a conference and they are actively sexist in this manner, isn't it better to call them out on it, and also to organise conferences yourself? Not 'for women', but organise conferences, make the roster equally gendered, host the panels and therefore invite the guests, and again, call anyone out on sexist comments/questions.

11 年Agree! It is a cliché. We as women have really struggled to be seen as people but our constant whining is boring. Men do not whine. Okay, we handle things differently but then we should not complain if we are treated differently. Fight for good environments, good pay for good jobs well done, good nutrition at school, equality around the world....but DO NOT point out how special we are by constantly focusing on us as women.
