Google: Pot, Kettle, Black.
We're starting to learn a little more about the real reasons that Google has been making a ridiculous number of updates to its search algorithm lately.
On October 10th, Google updated the algorithm which penalises websites that put ads "above the fold". Why? It turns out that some sites are managing to arbitrage by buying Google Ads and selling ads "above the fold" on the direct landing pages for this traffic for a higher price.
As Google said at the time, “Rather than scrolling down the page past a slew of ads, users want to see content right away. So sites that don’t have much content “above-the-fold” can be affected by this change.”
Of course, https://browsersize.googlelabs.com/ won't let you put google pages in. But, for 80% of people's screens this is what you see when you search for something on Google; one paltry nugget of useful information "above the fold".
Pot, kettle, black.
I can only expect that with Google missing its earnings lately, that we can expect more "quality" updates to their algorithm.
What? You don't think they A/B test the effect on revenue of these "updates"?

12 年Hmmm... good attempt at a point. But you cannot compare Google with blog or content sites. Google is a search engine that places relevant ads to your keyword search in the best position for those who pay the most. That's their business model. It's what we expect. What we don't expect is when we search for information to first be bombarded by irrelevant ads before we get to the information we were seeking. They're sorting out the time-wasters to keep their content-search-business relevant.
