The 2010 Ivorian Presidential election: Assessment of a predictable failure

Twenty years after the advent of the pluralist party system, C?te d’Ivoire held its second democratic election on October 31, 2010. Unfortunately, the election triggered a deadly violent conflict because the pre-requisite conditions for successfully holding the presidential election were not met. By 2025, the country will engage in another presidential election, with prominent political players in the starting block. Building on the missing steps of the 2010 polls, this study aims to shed light on the necessary policy actions for genuine, fair, and inclusive electoral polls to prevent chaos and political violence.
