200 Developer React.js Meet-up event at Uber Amsterdam
JSWORLD Conference
#1 JavaScript Conference on the Planet is Ready for You ???? JSWORLD Conference in Amsterdam ??? 28,29 Feb & 1 March '24
We are super excited to be hosting our in-person Javascript Meetup’s again. As some of you know, last month we hosted our first post-covid Meetup at ING Amsterdam featuring some amazing talks.
Well… it seems like words caught on because this month we hosted our Meetup at Uber Amsterdam which had a turnout of 200 developers, find the talk recordings below!!
First of all a big thank you to Uber Amsterdam for hosting us at their office, if you like to know more about their career opportunities look over here.
Javascript Talks
A Frontend Developer Meet-up wouldn’t be a Frontend Developer Meet-up without Javascript experts giving their technical talks. At Uber we welcomed 3 incredible speakers and talks:
Our first speaker Julia Stjerna is a Fullstack Developer and Instructor at the School of Applied Technology </salt>. So we know that managing state is hard, but managing state asynchronously is even harder. What happened after the release of React 16.3 when the “new” Context API was released? Why did Redux all of a sudden get challenged? Are useContext and React Redux really comparable as the memes and articles out there so clearly indicate? She gave us a rundown on useContext v.s. React Redux which included a live demo of what really happened and a look at the two using their modern recommendations and best practices in combination with managing state asynchronously.
Our second speaker, Bogdan Savluk is a Senior Software Engineer at Uber and he gave us a talk on Migration to TypeScript at Uber. Bogdan outlined Why to migrate in general, why Uber needed to migrate, and why now. He gave us a Flowing into Migration tooling overview, talking briefly about what was out there before. Then disclosed the details about what was built for the migration, and how it works. Most interestingly he highlighted the experience of migrating things so far which included: Babel (external opensource project), Uber opensource projects(baseweb, fusionjs), Internal projects in uber monorepo (edited).
Our last speaker of the night, Andrew Schorr who is also a Senior Software Engineer at Uber went into detail on the abstractions that Uber has made to their internal debugging tool uMonitor. He demonstrated to us how uMonitor is their centralised tool for all things debugging systems as well as observing data at Uber.?
Overall these talks were all incredibly interesting and highly technical which we really appreciate, so shout out to the great work of the speakers! Even more special is that these talks are available on YouTube!

Networking and Food
After a long day of work and some interesting talks, we came together for some delicious food and drinks. These are the moments that we really cherish when we see you guys all coming together to grab a bite and have a great time.
This year, with special thanks to Uber we enjoyed some delicious pizza, burgers and salads to really end this incredible meet-up on a satisfying note.
It was a surreal experience seeing 200 of you guys under one roof discussing your love for Javascript and getting to know each other, it really warmed our frontend developer hearts and reminded us of why we do this ??
