200 Days of Walking

What I’ve Learned About Patience, Progress, and Showing Up:
When I started walking every day, I didn’t set out to hit 200 days. I just wanted to feel better. At the time, I was at my heaviest weight, struggling with both physical and mental health, and looking for a small, manageable way to make a change.
That small step turned into a big journey, one that’s taught me more than I expected—not just about walking, but about patience, consistency, and trusting the process. These are lessons I’ve carried into my life, especially as I navigate the uncertainty of job hunting.
Lesson 1: Small Steps Add Up
When I first started, I couldn’t imagine hitting 200 days. My goal was simple: walk every day, no matter how far. Some days I only managed a short stroll; other days, I pushed myself to go further. What mattered was showing up consistently. Over time, those small efforts added up.
Job hunting is the same. Each application, networking call, or LinkedIn post might not feel like much on its own, but they build momentum. Progress might seem invisible at first, but trust me—it’s happening.
Lesson 2: Consistency Over Perfection
Not every walk was my best. Some days I felt unstoppable; others, I could barely get moving. But I showed up anyway, because the habit mattered more than the outcome on any single day.
In job searching, it’s easy to feel discouraged when things don’t go perfectly—a rejection email, a quiet week with no leads. But the act of showing up consistently, even on tough days, is what moves the needle over time.
Lesson 3: Rest Is Part of the Process
One of the most surprising lessons was learning the importance of rest. Walking every day doesn’t mean pushing myself to exhaustion—it means listening to my body and pacing myself. Some days, rest might look like a slow, gentle walk.

The same goes for job hunting. It’s easy to feel like you need to be “on” all the time, but burnout doesn’t lead to better results. Build rest into your routine so you have energy for what comes next.

Keep Moving Forward
These 200 days of walking have taught me that progress isn’t about massive leaps—it’s about steady, small steps in the right direction. Whether you’re working toward better health, searching for a new job, or pursuing a personal goal, remember: every small effort counts.
Keep going. Rest when you need to. And trust that with patience and persistence, you’ll get there.
