With all that each of us has going on, and how forward-looking professionals and entrepreneurs need to be, it's hard to remember what happened just a couple weeks ago - but I remember everything that happened on 9/11 and that was 20 years ago. I know that a lot of people will never let it be forgotten - and we should all take time to read their stories, think about those we lost, how we were attacked, how three hours changed everything .
So I think the only thing to do with this week's newsletter is share posts, news articles, images and whatever else I found that was worth sharing - and if you have anything you want me to add, please send it my way - this was my newsletter one year ago -

It's no overstatement to say that one day 20 years ago impacted everyone's life - we'll be saying the same thing about covid in 20 years, and 20 years from then, it'll be something else (if not huge changes from climate change before then) - the only thing we can predict is unpredictability and the only constant is change - we are able to control some things on a micro level, but the scale of these mega-events is so huge, it's hard to imagine and wrap our minds around. But every challenging time has within it the potential to see beauty, humanity, kindness; and we each have the capacity to add to that side of the ledger when all is said and done.

3 年I remember I was in college on that black day, watching attacks on twin towers, pentagon and buildings collapsing, people jumping. it was horrifying, seemed like some bad dream or Hollywood action movie and not reality. With y2k boom back then, like many youngsters in India I also chose IT field and pursued education in Computer Applications even though it was costly affair for my lower-middle-class family. With death of my father, financial troubles, 9/11 attacks, markets tumbling it felt like end of world, for me, for sure. Somehow completed college and got job at Infosys and eventually in the following 2 years things improved in IT field and got opportunity to come to US for work. Now with Covid, past 1.5 yrs. also seem like end of world. There seems to be no end for this pandemic with new variants coming up. But nothing stops humanity and world goes on. Good and bad phases pass and it's a cycle. Only thing constant is the change and struggles in our life. We just have to swim across this life, stay good, protect our loved ones, mourn for the lost ones and cherish good memories with them. Let there be Peace and Happiness.

3 年I was driving to NYC from Westchester - my offices were in Tribeca near Canal street and was delayed. I heard on the radio that a small plane had hit the world Trade Center and it didn't seem serious. But when I approached the Henry Hudson Bridge, several police cars got on the road and turned all traffic around. I was forced off the road - and back on the highway, home. By the time I got home - I saw on TV that both planes had hit the Trade Centers. I lost a client ( 4 women from a Swedish Insurance company ) on the 78th floor. It was a devastating day. I had also worked years before at One Liberty Plaza - across from the Trade Centers.

3 年I worked for American Express. Our headquarters sat right next to the towers. You could see the people jumping off the cliff. To honor the victims, remember and learn. 3 年I still remember how I felt, sitting in a classroom in lockdown in Canada when 9/11 happened. What a beautiful take on the power of time, 20 years in this case, to reveal beauty that's hard to see in the moment. Now, please excuse me while I grab a tissue. Beautifully powerful, as always Ariel.
