20 things you can do when you feel stuck in your head

Over the last weeks, more than a hand full of my friends and (beta testing) clients told me that they feel “stuck in their minds”. Fascinating!?
I’ve been plagued by this “social phenomenon” until last year, too. Until I created an emergency list of things I can do when I find myself in that situation again. Yes, it still happens to me, too. BUT it shows up less frequently and if it shows up, I’m “mindful enough” by now to interrupt that state faster.
What’s wrong with being in the head?
I’m glad you’ve asked. There’s nothing “wrong” with it. And when you start feeling anxious, depressed, low on energy, uninspired, disconnected, light-headed and/or numb this might be a signal from (the infinite wisdom of) your body to get out of “thinking land”…???
Or, let me put it this way: If the Universe wanted us to?only?spend time in our heads, it would?not?have designed us how we are: With aspects like hands, arms, shoulders, legs, feet, hips, etc. Hehe
Also, worth mentioning is that when you’re “too much in your mind”, you can’t be fully creative, open, receptive. The muse, her whispers of inspiration can’t reach you. Or you can’t properly hear them. That’s not only something I’ve experienced; my fellow storytellers and content creators shared the same challenges with me. I always wondered why…
"Mindland" – the enemy of creativity & inspiration?
An interesting thought I’ve learned from Osho regarding the just asked question looks as follows (PS: If the word “God” triggers or doesn’t sit well with you, replace it with “Universe”, “Allah”, “Source” or however you call this entity):
“When you listen, you become just a passage, a passivity, a receptivity, a womb: You become feminine. And to arrive one has to become feminine. You cannot reach God as aggressive invaders, conquerors. You can reach God only… or it will be better to say; God can reach you only when you are receptive, a feminine receptivity. When you become yin, a receptivity, the door is open. And you wait.”
Ahaaaa! That makes a?lot?of sense to me. So, the next question then is, how do we escape “mindland” and land back in the present moment, our bodies (the feminine is home in the body and in life) and senses?
The emergency list
??sing (out loud) - ideally with both of your hands on top of each other on your chest to feel your own vibration/yourself
??dance wildly, freely, sensually - whatever floats your boat
??smell your favorite spice or essential oil (don’t deeply inhale toxic, plastic-fantastic perfumes)
??go for a walk in nature and give your best to be mindful, present, open
??give yourself a massage. Feel into yourself: What do you experience on your hands, wrists, underarms, elbow, upper arm, neck, etc.?
??gift yourself with an empowering, cleansing “crygasm” (cry as much, long, wildly, stupidly as you want. No f*cks given)
??take three very deep breaths: all the way in, wait three seconds, all the way out, then squeeze out the rest; repeat, observe how you feel afterwards
??walk barefoot on soil, grass, sand or dip your feet into a river/the ocean

??make love to yourself (you decide how you interpret that/how far you go…???)
??stretch or do some simple yoga exercises for a few minutes while deeply breathing
??meditate - your way. There’s no right or wrong here
??truly listen to a wonderful piece of music. Become one with it (don’t choose a song full of wrong belief or subtle “poor me” messages)
??get some colors and start drawing in that coloring book you got yourself earlier this year
??go to the gym. That reflection of awesomeness you see in the mirror, yes that one, is you! Yummyyyy…???
??mindfully prepare a delicious meal. Be fully present when baking/cooking
??pet your dog/cat. How does their fur feel on your fingertips? Melt into that fluffiness
??deeply hug your favorite person (you might want to ask for consent before you do that is some cases LOL)
??watch a sketch of your favorite comedian. Or your favorite viral animal video. Laugh loud, deeply, freely
??do anything else that invites you to use your senses…
??…and/or reconnect to your body
Conclusion
To sum it up and put it into my own words:?
When we’re "(stuck) in our heads", we tend to be focused on linear thinking, logic, maybe even the ego’s drama. Reconnecting to our body and senses can invite new, creative insights, circular thinking, inspiration, playfulness, and more openness. Maybe, only maybe, even Divine guidance…
What do YOU do when you feel stuck in your head?

1 年Lately, I often go just in a state of silence without any meditation music or other to calm down and center myself again. Today, I did a short meditation in the morning and took a silent break too. A few months ago, I became aware of the fact that I have to be more careful with my energy level. From my point of view, this does mean that we have to discover whether we are able to free our mind fully on a regular basis or not. When you are feeling that the stuckness doesn't want to disappear, you may need to change your job, relationships (...).

1 年I also like to go for a walk, smile at people. Sometimes the others look straigth away, but often the others smile back. Also to think and act to make others a good time or help out, distracts me from my "mememe-circle" in the head.
