Tough Times Never Last, But Tough People Do
Life can throw anything at you - whether you’re prepared for it or not and how you react to it is what defines you and reveals your true character.
Life is like a sine wave. If there are crests, there would also be troughs. You can either crib and cry or face them gladly. That’s the thing about tough people, they brave the odds with a smile.
You are stronger than you think
Whether you’re working in a toxic workplace or there’s a crisis going on in your personal life - tough times are part and parcel of life. The scenario or circumstances will vary from person to person but it’s your attitude that will keep you moving.
If you’ve weathered hard times in the past successfully, you are tough enough to handle just about anything. Just remember that you are stronger than your insecurities, fears, personal perceptions, and other people’s opinion of you. You are much stronger than that.
What it takes to be tough
No one is born tough, it takes time and effort to build a tough you. The level of hard work to be put into that process might vary from one individual to another.
Check out the below points that might help you become tough in life:
1. Brave it out
A winner’s attitude - that’s what you ought to have to be tough. All strong men and women are brave both inside out. Even if they aren’t, they are goddamn good at it. The brave men carve out their own fortune, and they are able to do so due to their bravery and courage.
2. Do things that others don’t
The people who persevere don’t always do the conventional. They have the courage to separate themselves from the pack and walk on a less-traveled path completely alone. They don’t always adhere to the norms of society which mean doing things that others don’t unapologetically.
3. Be flexible
Tough people stay committed to their decisions but stay flexible in their approach. Strength is not always about power and force. Sometimes the most powerful thing to do is not to do anything at that specific moment. Analyze the situation and do the needful.
4. Saying No
One of the hardest things to do is to say no - whether it is to people or to yourself. Tough people put themselves first as they value every minute of their precious time.
5. They make constant sacrifices
Everything comes with a price as there’s no such thing as free lunches in this world. You have to make a lot of sacrifices to earn the label of ‘tough’. It comes along with many sleepless nights, unfulfilled promises, failures, and selfless acts of love.
Keep going
One thing that distinguishes strong people is that they show up - no matter how scared they are. Champions don’t show up to get everything they want; they show up to give everything they have - that’s what makes them great. No matter how you feel, get up, show up, and never give up!
