20 things I learnt from 2020
Obviously, you don't need another reminder of what 2020 has done to humanity. Media has done a good enough job of that. Just turn on the TV today and you can see how bad 2020 has been for everyone and how doom and gloom situations are. While I am not denying the effects that COVID19 has done to humanity, I want to show you another side of the story of 2020.
In this article, I want to share with you what I learnt from 2020.
Note: I would not write another article of complaining and whining of how bad 2020 was. Indeed, I would write exactly how 2020 was for me and my company. And how 2020 was a blessing in disguise for me. And how If you approached 2021 the same way, you'd get the best year.
1. Don't trust people based on what they say, instead look at what they do.
In 2020, I made decisions to hire more people. I made a mistake by listening to all their empty promises that they could do this and that for my company. It turned sour pretty soon.
2. Be courageous. It takes courage to make money.
It seems quite a cliché but courage is really what it takes. Don't just talk about it but actually do it. In 2020, I have done many things that scare the hell out of me. It stretched my comfort zone but I did it anyway. I do things that most people would not do.
3. Network is networth. Stay close to power.
In 2020, I have made a conscious effort to improve my network. This year I spend more time with successful people, high achievers, professionals, positive people. I do not want to choose friends by default but rather by design.
4. Don't waste a crisis. The obstacle is the way.
This comes directly from my mentor Grant Cardone. While people complain about COVID19 and how it impacted their lives. I asked myself another question 'how can I take advantage of this situation'. I reminded myself of how some of the biggest companies in the world were founded during the crisis. I remember sitting at home and thinking deeply about what people would need most and I thought of Jobs. That's when me and my partner came up with the Job Coaching Program which has now become our most sought after service.
5. Keep trying new things, twist and turn until I see better results.
This year, we try lots of different things from using different software, trying different Ads etc. to improve the company efficiency. We are always to open to new things and changes as long as it is good for the company.
6. Overpromise, over deliver.
This year, I always went far beyond what is expected of me for my clients. I did things that was not included in the program. And as a result, our clients were very impressed. And more business happens as a result.
7. Keep investing in myself. Double down if possible. It's always the best investment.
8. Be willing to work harder than anyone else.
This year is a year where victim and crybabies will show their true selves even more. On the other hand, go getter like me will succeed no matter what. While other people taking their time off because 'supposedly' there should not be any clients, I keep hunting for new clients and we got many even better than 2019.
9. Leverage other people mind.
Surround myself with successful people, like-minded people. This year, I spent lots of time learning from other people who have done better than me. These also include people who can make up for my weakness. Understanding my weakness and realizing that I cannot be good at everything is a good start. Via leveraging other people mind, not only did I let myself do what I am good at but also benefiting from other people strengths.
10.Money is not everything but it can buy almost everything.
People cannot get it so they tell you it ain't important. This year, I stayed away from people who condemns my financial freedom goal. I always reminded myself being poor is selfish.
11. Never send a duck to eagle school.
People won't share my same dream and that's ok.
12. Be omnipresent.
Always promote (even if that is free).
13. Don't leave dead/idle time. Devil loves white calendar
14. Lean into fear.
If I feel fear something, do it!!!!
15. Model other people success. Don't try to reinvent the wheel. Success leaves clues.
16. THINK bigger.
This year, I thought a lot bigger. It was an intentional effort to think bigger and more importantly to take bigger actions.
17. Own up to my mistakes.
Admit that I am wrong, find the mistakes, learn from it and make sure it won't happen again in the future
18. Hustle so hard that I have no time to hate.
19. Health is wealth.
20. We should always treasure every moments no matter large or small together with our loved ones.
This year, I watched movie 'A Christmas carol' and it really reminded me of the importance of being nice and kind to everyone. And always take time to enjoy every bit of life because we won't know when it might be our turn.
