20 pointers @ 100th day

20 pointers @ 100th day

Today - marked my first one hundred days in my new MIS  job in a local medium sized company.

I have (re)learned twenty very important things - in no particular order :

1.  Build, enhance, enlarge and widen all your networks of friends, colleagues and associates. They could help and give you new ideas as you move along.

2.  Be humble and absorb more and learn really fast.  No one exactly need and appreciate your input as   '' I used to do that in my previous role... ''

3. Ask more questions and ask all type of questions. Never too shy to ask basic questions  - what, who, why, where, when and how.

4. Be a better listener, you don't need to always talk. There are more experienced people around you, pay attention and hear what they have to say.

5. Be real and get real; some guys will not respect your 26 years of MNC working experience. They don't give a hood to your past track-records.

6. You must start to deliver quickly since you are an experienced hire. Start small and make progressive milestones -  smallish but significant .

7. Communicate openly - be free to share your ideas since you're more experienced. But get prepared to be shot-down :  part of normal working life.

8. Treat everyone well, professionally and respectfully.  This is Human101.

9. Deploy and develop (new) best practices whenever you can.

10. Start anew, you have nothing to do with your predecessor's achievement nor mistake; constantly press forward.

11. Learn new skill, refresh old one - you don't know how much you have missed.  Social, technical, sports, read ....  all inclusive.

12. Pay attention to details; check line by line - if needed and when warranted.

13. Think, don't be lazy.   Make your decision good, not just make good decision.

14. Keep yourself healthy and fit.  Your new role can be very demanding mentally.     Watch stress level, always stay sangfroid.

15. Be grateful and appreciative, say Thank You and/or  Sorry - mean it sincerely.     Love people; use object, not the other way round.

16. Stay very focused - you are employed for a reason.   Add and deliver good values.

17. Keep things simple and simpler, for you, your team and your management.          Respect others opinion and disagreement.

18. At 50s, make your own choices ;  distance promptly from irrelevant & toxic people; even close confidant.  Life is wasted, if you constantly bugged by them.

19. Social-medias are OK.  Stay professional, never TMI.

20. Enjoy your job.   #Self Reminder01.

Hi Lee, congratulations you finally get into a great career. You are all correct, life is too short, we just need to move on and be flexible no matter what position we are. Keep this continuously, you will never lose out. :)
