Consolidations continue to transform the roster of largest medical device companies in the world — as evidenced by Medical Design & Outsourcing‘s latest Big 100 list.
Overall, Big 100 companies saw $397.5 billion in sales during their most recent fiscal years, up 3.5% from the previous year. As companies continue to combine, smaller companies are making it onto the bottom of the list. No. 100 on this year’s list was Ra Medical Systems at nearly $6.3 million in annual revenue; the previous Big 100 had EDAP at the bottom of the list with $40.2 million in revenue.
Today, we’re going to count down Nos. 20–11 on the list. After that, it’s the top 10.

The Big 100 is a team effort. Associate editor Danielle Kirsh compiles the data — examining companies’ annual reports early each year, as soon as the prior year’s financials begin to trickle in. We compile the listings and rank the companies according to annual revenues, then R&D spending and number of employees. Once the numbers are collected, we attempt to contact each of the 100 companies to confirm our findings.
Executive editor Brad Perriello and editor Chris Newmarker wrote the company profiles.
