#2: US Dept of Justice Seeks Google’s Sell-Off of Chrome

The U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) has asked a federal judge to compel Google to sell its Chrome browser, citing antitrust concerns and its dominant role in online advertising.?

The DOJ argues that Chrome’s integration with Google’s advertising tools gives the company excessive & monopolistic control over the digital ad market. This legal battle aligns with ongoing global scrutiny of tech giants, aiming to foster competition and transparency in the digital space.

Google is estimated to control two-thirds of the global search market, & the company has claimed the DOJ is pursuing a “radical agenda that goes far beyond the legal issues in this case".

A final ruling is not expected before August 2025, as Google prepares to present proposals in response to DOJ’s case in December 2024.
