2 PLUS 2????

After an immersive session of nonprofit management program which spanned close to 9hours, I headed home from Gbagada enroute Anthony. From the moment I stepped into the minibus till I alighted, the driver was on talking mode, it was as if he was waiting for me. And me as I be... I just started listening in while chipping in once in a while. From the President's administration to the stiff economic challenges that the countrymen is going through to the stifling challenges of commercial transport in Lagos which has pushed two drivers away from his bus forcing him to keep the bus on the road in order to avoid wear and tear, apparently he is involved in some form of school administration.

What stuck out for me from his conversation is how important it is for our children to be made to understand that the class education they get is not the end in itself. They have to be taught, enlightened, and enabled to see the 'real-ness' of 2 plus 2 in their daily lives.

So I got thinking!

2 plus 2 equals 4 is not enough. But when I drink 2 sachet of water after a meal at Mama Ten-Naira's bukateria and my friend does the same, since Mama Ten-Naira is just sitting at Coctus street junction, we will likely dump our 4 empty sachets into the gutter.

And that's it.

That's the problem. That's why Coctus street is flooded. That's why our roads are flooded when rain falls. Because most of us are adding our 2 plus 2 plastic bottles, sachets, Styrofoam plates, everything into the gutter. Some of them can get inspired to take up the challenge for climate action and environmental renewal - whether for-profit or not-for-profit basis.

2 plus 2 has many expressions, many, many, many. The end is for our children to be empowered to be able to crystallize and synthesize their classroom knowledge. Through this model, the children will be enabled to see the problem in the society and how their presence in the society counts.
