#2: Loss & Damage
Hi everyone.
This is Daniel and today I'm back with a new podcast episode, a deep dive on Loss & Damage and an opportunity to give us feedback on our onboarding flow.
I hope you're doing well, wherever you are and whatever you do!
1/ Digital Activism Podcast
Acter has stepped into the world of podcasting with our very own series, Digital Activism. Our commitment is to bring you frequent episodes that shine a spotlight on the voices of experts and activists alike.
Digital Activism is here to connect you with the ideas and individuals driving activism forward.
Episode 2: Loss and Damage
In this episode, Ben Clark from the U.S. and Lautaro Carranza from Argentina dive into the critical issue of Loss and Damage in the climate crisis. Here’s what they cover:
Now you want to know where to listen to it?

It's one conversation at a time.
2/ Deep Dive - Loss & Damage
We're in the thick of it with climate change, and the stakes are getting higher every day. The planet's warming up by more than 1.1°C already, and that's causing a whole host of problems: sea levels rising, storms getting wilder, and rainfall becoming a guessing game. It's a lot, and it's hitting millions of people hard.
Reducing our greenhouse gas emissions is a no-brainer at this point. We also need to pour resources into protecting communities from the fallout of these changes. But let's be real, our collective efforts to slow emissions and adapt to this new climate reality? They're not cutting it. This means we're facing losses and damages from climate impacts that are almost unavoidable now...
This begins a deep dive into Loss & Damage on our Acter News blog.
3/ Community
We are just starting with our community. Bringing together all interested and related people in our dedicated space on Acter. Here is what we're up to:
?? Exploring the potentials and pitfalls of Digital Activism and Organizing
?? Connecting the needs and pain points of change-makers and grassroots in the digital world
?? Being transparent about our journey as a non-profit start-up and co-creating the Acter app together
?? Providing support and regular updates for the Acter app
There are already regular product updates and AMA calls. Other special events are coming up, e.g. about what digital security means for activists. Stay tuned.

4/ Inside Acter
Security vs. User Success
The Acter app will have two key features:
First new ways of community building and organizing and second maximum privacy and security for activists worldwide.
In particular, security comes at a price. The first steps in such an environment will be more complicated than Telegram or Discord.
To raise awareness even before registration, our Task Force User Success re-created the welcoming screens showing right after downloading Acter.
We invite you to give us feedback on this prototype that shows the sign-up flow for first-time users.
Here is a short manual for the prototype walkthrough

Learning from past infrastructure projects
??'Why should we believe you'll succeed when others haven't?'
This is a query we've encountered time and again, especially from funders and philanthropists who've seen their fair share of ambitious projects falter.
So how is Acter different? What makes us believe we have a real shot at building secure and effective digital infrastructure that can challenge Big Tech and that movements and activists are willing to adopt...?
Emil Vincentz has written a blog post about how we can ensure that Acter doesn't just become the next failed tech project.
