2 Keys To Keep Age 40+ Recession Job Search From Crashing

2 Keys To Keep Age 40+ Recession Job Search From Crashing

It's understandable that you're a little scared.

First you were dealing with ageism, facing rejection for jobs when you were qualified ... but ghosted or told you were "overqualified".

That was before the recession. Now all you hear is that we're headed for massive layoffs and the economy's going over a cliff.

First of all ... calm down. Take a deep breath. Even in a recession, there will still be hiring for replacement positions. And some industries will go through a boom - More than just health care companies.

Here are 2 keys to keep your age 40+ job search from crashing during a recession:

  1. Your Resume Needs To Show You're #1: Your current resume is ok. You've had it worked over by outplacement, paid a certified professional resume writer, had your boss and friends check it over - and they told you it was good. Maybe that was good enough at one point, but it's not good enough now with increased competition to show you're #1. You need to make your resume give the first impression (and back it up) that you're one of the top candidates the employer will see - Demonstrating the huge impact you'll make.
  2. You Need To Be The #1 Candidate To Find The Job: Positions hired during the recession will be hired fast and the way you've been applying has been too slow to be the #1 candidate. Applying through job boards and networking the in the same way will make you too late to be the #1 candidate. You need to change your job search process because:
  • Replacement positions will be recruiting emergencies - Hiring managers will be able to shortcut the hiring process so these positions will rarely be advertised or go through 3rd party recruiters.
  • Some underperforming employees will be laid off, with the intention of hiring a replacement - These may not be emergencies, but they'll be filled very quickly, sometimes bypassing normal HR hiring practices.
  • Booming companies will be constantly hiring, as fast as they can, but won't change hiring process - But they'll be so overwhelmed with candidates that most will be too late for consideration.

This makes your recession job search even more challenging if you're over 40. You're perceived as seeking higher compensation, so you need to overcome the employer risk "Are you worth it?".

Want to learn how to change your resume and job search strategy to show employers you're the #1 candidate?

This is the 3rd recession I've recruited/coached through, so I've seen first hand what resume and job search strategies succeed during recessions. I've also seen mistakes candidates make, causing their recession job searches to fail. I've been through this before and know what works and what doesn't.

As a top national recruiter who reads hundreds of resumes per day, who has helped hundreds of thousands of candidates in their job search, and seen thousands of employers' job search processes from the inside, I've got a different perspective than most career coaches.

I see that most job seekers do essentially the same things, even when they think they are job searching differently. I also see most job seekers were taught search methods that get screened out by ATSs and eliminate them from consideration, because they conflict with the employer's hiring process.

But I've been teaching job seekers to overcome ageism for 13+ years by using non-traditional resume/job search strategies that demonstrate impact rather than just being average. I'll show you how to beat ageism and find a great job during the recession by understanding employers' point of view and hiring processes ... and using this understanding to beat your competition.

(I'm not just a career coach. I've also been a top national recruiter for the last 15 years ... so you'll get advice from a different perspective - an insider's point of view.)

Let me show you what you can do now to change your job search and resume so you can find a great job during the coronavirus recession, even if you're unemployed or over 40.
