2 Cloud Architects Required

Position Summary:

The Cloud Platform Manager(s) work with both operational and project teams to understand their cloud platform requirements and translates those requirements into the required cloud technical operational delivery solution for their area of scope. The Cloud Platform Manager(s) will provide subject matter expertise on all relevant cloud IaaS and PaaS components and will act as emergency technical support if required.

The Cloud Platform Manager(s) must have a strong understanding of the various internal cloud SaaS, PaaS and IaaS delivery models and components. The Cloud Platform Manager determines if current cloud platform solutions in their area of scope will meet new requirements or will work with Enterprise Architecture to recommend new cloud platform solutions if required.  In addition, the Cloud Platform Manager should have an awareness of the overall internal business enterprise and enterprise-wide IT architecture available to understand the issues and implications of proposed cloud platform solutions.

The Cloud Platform Manager(s) is responsible for oversight and management of an outsourced operational support service provider that would perform the day to day execution of end to end cloud area specific platform operational activities.

Key Accountabilities

Responsibility Area #1 – Operational Support Oversight

• Technical oversight of all cloud IaaS and PaaS environments and components for assigned scope
• Participate in transition to support activities with projects to ensure deliverables meets all client requirements and standards for cloud platform operational support
• Overall technical administration oversight duties, including but not limited to:

1. Emergency security or configuration changes
2. Oversee provisioning of new cloud environments or instances
3. Service account and elevated access management oversight
4. Ensure that appropriate operational events monitoring is in place
5. Review vendor recommended PaaS and IaaS patching, monthly maintenance and backups

• Manage the monthly cost of all cloud environments for assigned scope to not exceed the pre-defined usage

1. Monitor hourly costs and billing from cloud platforms service delivery for their area of scope
2. Provide recommendations for continuous improvement for optimum utilization
3. Ensure proactive capacity planning is performed

• Continued training and support to client’s outsourced service provider as required
• Assists in investigation of internal cloud platform problems and develops recommendations for resolution
• Collaborate with team members to assist in technical decisions that affect operations or new projects/initiatives
• Acts as an escalation point for technical questions about the cloud platform requirements, involving Enterprise Architecture as required
• Escalate concerns regarding operational, project risks and issues, including vendor concerns, to leadership
• Attend root cause analysis meetings after cloud platform incidents involving area of scope related components
• Communicate as required both within all areas of the IT organization.
• Oversight of Dev Ops Tool chain processes and controls

Responsibility Area #2 – Documentation

• Ensure all cloud platform solutions are documented, showing relationships with other applications or services
• Review and ensure existing cloud platform documentation is complete and maintained
• Review the vendor provided system documentation, including cloud solution architecture and system manuals, to ensure alignment to business & technical requirements

Responsibility Area #3 – Planning and requirements

• Support initiatives as new or enhanced cloud platform solutions/projects are being considered
• Assist in the translation of business requirements into cloud technical requirements
• Contribute to the formulation and definition of system scope and objective based on operational or project requirements as they relate to cloud platforms
• Assess how the assigned cloud platform and its components can be leveraged and integrated with other cloud solutions to meet business requirements
• Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture to ensure the cloud solution is in compliance with existing enterprise cloud architecture; if no enterprise cloud architecture exists, advise Enterprise Architecture that enterprise cloud architecture solution is required
• Assist Enterprise Architecture in developing an area of scope specific technical roadmap to align with IT strategy and goals
• Collaborate with the Enterprise Architecture to provide recommendations on new area of scope cloud platform offerings that help drive strategic direction

Responsibility Area #4 – Maintain technical knowledge

• Maintain technical knowledge of area of scope cloud platform products and services in the environment
• Demonstrate in-depth technical proficiency level to coach and transfer knowledge to other team members
• Maintain an understanding of integrated systems and associated business areas that they support
• Maintain a strong understanding of the overall cloud architecture and of the technology products in the area of scope environment in order to understand the issues and implications of proposed cloud solutions

Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

·        Ability to integrate business processes and functional requirements within the area of scope cloud platforms to meet business needs.

·        Strong analytical, technical and problem solving skills.

·        Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate technical concepts into non-technical language for business stakeholders. 

·        Maintain knowledge of cloud IT solutions, service offerings and emerging technologies

·        Ability to work in a team environment, build collaborative relationships, and negotiate with various stakeholders

·        Have an innovative mindset, and a proven track record in identifying, proposing, prototyping, documenting, and overseeing the execution of area of scope cloud technology solutions.

Supervision:

No supervisory responsibilities

Education and Experience:

Note: A combination of education and experience outside of the standards below may also be considered.

a)   Minimum Formal Education:

 College or Technical diploma

c)    Minimum Experience:

 5 – 7 years

Type of Experience Required:

• 5-7 years of area of scope cloud platform experience or equivalent experience and education
• Strong technical knowledge of area of scope cloud platform
• Knowledge of cloud enterprise systems is considered an asset
• Knowledge of common business processes is considered an asset
• ITIL certification
• Skills in the following are considered an asset:
