1st Quarter of 2018 ― Are you Progressing or Procrastinating?

As 2018 glides effortlessly towards its 1st Quarter, we must begin, before it becomes too late, to take stock of our ambitions, aspirations, and goals or if you may, our New Year Resolutions!

I hereby propose a progressive yet SMARTER goal-setting process, going forward.

  • Specific - This will hold you accountable to the very goals you established. Include a focused commitment to your action points by beginning to align your strategies immediately after scanning the prevailing environment. This guarantees a symbiotic relationship is achieved.
  • Measurable - What you cannot measure you cannot manage and therefore change. The measure may be quantitative or qualitative, but must be measured against a standard of performance and a standard of expectation. What is your Yardstick?
  • Attainable – We must appreciate that setting goals is a delicate balance between reaching a success that is too easy or too hard. Progress towards attaining your goals, requires a keen consideration of available resources within your disposable.
  • Relevant – Your goals must be relevant towards advancement of your vision and mission in life. This enables you to stay on course on what is important through prioritizing. Have you identified or discovered your Mission or Purpose?
  • Time Specific – A timeline or date should be included as a vital part of your goal. Being time-specific helps you to measure your progress along the path of reaching your goals. It can also increase your chances of success as you are able to develop a doable action plan, inclusive of setting objectives and strategies towards reaching your goal.
  • Evaluate – Remember that your goals are not cast on stone and will change from time to time. Constantly evaluating your goals is essential to reaching them. During evaluation, change factors must be identified and taken into consideration;
  • Revise – Immediately after evaluation, you should re-do the goals that need changing by objectively identifying specific areas of improvement and the steps that are necessary to guarantee progress as you continue the SMARTER goal-setting process.
