Gamescom Europe is one of the most anticipated events of the year, promising to deliver content that combines the latest insights across gaming technology, exciting announcements, immersive experiences, and a vibrant community of gamers all in one city. And Gamescom 2023 delivered.

The Numbers:

  • Over 320,000 visitors from 100+ countries showed up.
  • Around 31,000 industry insiders, with a whopping 50 percent from beyond borders got in on the action.
  • Over 180 million video views racked up across the show.
  • 20 million of those views were solely from the ‘Opening Night Live’ event!
  • Plus, nearly 2 million page views for gamescom EPIX.
  • A staggering 1,227 exhibitors from 63 different countries, with 76% from overseas.?
  • Oh, and let's not forget about the 33 pavilions from 26 nations, covering a jaw-dropping 230,000 square metres of prime exhibition real estate.

Marketers In Gaming: Making Connections IRL


We kicked off with a refreshing 7am morning meet up for a 3K run along the river, joined by a mix of games industry professionals; a real chance to break the ice (and a sweat) before Gamescom commenced. The following day, the excitement reached a crescendo with our first ever international meet-up at The Copper Pot – a laid-back gathering for marketing professionals and gaming aficionados, with free drinks courtesy of 1minus1.

It was amazing to see the responses and hear about the impact the group has had in such a short space of time. There was a real sense of community among those that joined us and we’re excited to see people become ambassadors for Marketers In Gaming. There really is nothing better than meeting IRL - a success story which has just begun!

Proud Partners

We’re always impressed by the talent across the industry and the awards were an opportunity for the industry to celebrate the hard work and efforts of those teams that truly deserve the spotlight. It is always a proud moment for us seeing our partners we work with leave gamescom with both nominations and wins!?

The celebrations didn't stop there – we also met with more incredible publishers and studios across the week who expressed interest in teaming up. So there’s a win in there for us too as we endeavour on exciting collaborations with new and existing partners!?

Xbox Stand: Where Dreams Come to Game

Oh, Xbox stand, you magnificent behemoth! Imagine over 30 titles, a whopping 150 gaming stations, photo ops galore, 300-seater theatre, a monster of a stand (yes, we mean an actual monster), and a supercar all under one roof. Our hearts couldn't decide between the Turn10 Forza Motorsport champions selfie wall or the opportunity to head into space with Bethesda Game Studios Starfield. Luckily, we had time for both and more.. where we were treated to an exclusive sneak peek of the Starfield.?

Cosplay Craze: Where Fantasy Meets Reality

Cosplayers at Gamescom Europe took dedication to a whole new level. The incredible craftsmanship in each costume brought beloved gaming characters to life. While we didn't catch the cosplay contests, seeing different characters interacting with others from different universes was exhilarating enough for us. We never thought we needed to see Princess Peach talk to Astarion from Baldur's Gate, but apparently we did!?

Unveiling AAAs and Indies

Gamescom Europe has a reputation for dropping bombshell game announcements and jaw-dropping reveals. Our 1minus1 team were buzzing around during the opening night, but we caught up on all the epic games that were unveiled. Action, adventure, RPGs, indie gems – you name it, this year's lineup had it. Which was your most anticipated game from the showcase?

Living the Game: Immersive Experiences Like No Other

1minus1 is a team of creative marketers at its core, so we were always going to love the immersive experiences brands were offering at Gamescom. As we went strolling through life-sized digital realms and diving into live demos, we basically became one with gaming over the week.?

It was fascinating to talk behind the scenes with different game studio marketing teams. We got to hear about how the gamescom stands had come together and how long they had been in the works. Looking beyond gamescom, we got to hear what was in store for the universes these studios have helped create.?
