#1HumanRace

In light of recent activism around the world, I put forward here a viewpoint on a possible solution, one that might make people angry. If it does, I would really like to understand why?
......................................
#1Humanrace.
How about we stop defining people by the colour of their skin.
Make it illegal, for people to be defined by any other race, than human, then put in place projects for humans that encourage unity not division and shared value.
The way I see it, since the dawn of time, humans have divided themselves into groups, that they “believe” make themself unique.
Uniqueness stemming from things like, the region they were born, or live in, a tribe based on a certain belief system .....etc.
This has seemed to evolve into constantly splitting and dividing groups of humans, people divided based on skin colour, sex, political belief, sport team, pro-gun, anti-gun, clothing brand, those that are good singers, those that are not, and much much more.
A never ending slew of division, that keeps evolving and makes lots of money for media outlets who promote this never ending division.
This division allows people to focus on their difference, and whilst I certainly believe in celebrating and focusing of difference, the problem arises when people foster a belief that they are either superior to another division of people, or on the opposite side of the coin, inferior and hard done by by the other side of the division.
It has gotten so ridiculous that every time you turn on a TV there is someone pushing their agenda arguing with someone else pushing their agenda. People have even taken to not caring about the destruction of other people’s beliefs, property or lifestyle purely because they believe their agenda trumps other people’s agendas.
It’s an agenda war.
Each party is vocal about how hard they are done by or how wrong each other is.
As people we seem to have been conditioned into a belief system of winner vs loser, a model where if someone wins someone loses. Because of this everyone wants to win and we have ended up in a sea, of every divided group of interest, competing against the other to win.
There is however a model of win, win, one where community sharing value with each other creates no losers in the exchange, one that creates value of both sides of the coin.
I believe the solution is unity not division.
Building a belief system and program, that helps us understand and cherish how we are the same and how we can help each other.
The more we are united, the less one skin colour is treated differently. The less ones skin colour is truly treated differently the more chance of united and similar treatment.
This does not mean that each culture can not be uniquely celebrated it just shouldn't trump the power of how we are the same.
If the media did not have the nutrition to amplify the division, it may find it might be out of business or have to rapidly modify its business model, one which IMHO incites this division and amplifies anger, mistrust and in some cases violence.
That’s just my opinion and I could be totally wrong, but I treat everyone with respect and don’t understand how people can spent their life force and energy, trying to control others or proving others wrong..
I wish you a day full of adventure, love and a mindset of united and shared value.

4 年Thank you. This is exactly right. Why turn it upside down, inside out and give humans a new label when we are what we are. Thank you Finbar OHanlon

4 年That’s great Fin. I totally agree that by being inclusive it sets a much better baseline. I totally believe that #blacklivesmatter but I also believe that #alllivesmatter. One of the strongest advertising campaigns I have ever seen was from United Colors of Benetton back in (I’m pretty sure it was) the eighties and they had the visual of mixed race couples and the slogan “Love sees no color”. I found it extremely powerful so much so that I remember the campaign at least 30 years later. The world needs to unite, we should be inclusive, view ourselves as the human race and we need to love...

4 年Insightful article Finbar OHanlon. I think it is an inherent trait of human beings to classify and categorise. It helps us make sense of the random world we live in and gives us the illusion that somehow we understand and somewhat control it even though we don't. What we often forget is how trying to fit everything into boxes takes away the complexity and important nuances. If we don't make the conscious effort to look beyond the boxes and accept that not everything fit perfectly with such a simplified interpretation of the world, such boxes end up owning and controlling us, as you have perfectly highlighted in this article.
