1960's-1970's Omega Watch Designer to Queen Elizabeth II Andrew Grima

We recently acquired and restored a stunning collection of historic and collectible 60-70's Vintage Omega DeVille watches by Andrew Grima, Designer to Queen Elizabeth II. We love these timepieces as they are all incredible historical watches and also works of art.

Grima was an Italian-born mechanical engineer who was raised in London by an artistic and creative family who were embroidery designers. After WW2, Grima started working in accounting at his father-in-law's jewellery firm in London.

Talented and charismatic, Grima developed his design skills at the shop and after excelling in his craft, became the foremost modern jewellery designer in the West End of London throughout the 60's and 70's. Andrew served the royals and celebrities including Queen Elizabeth, Princess Margaret, Jackie Kennedy Onassis and many dignitaries worldwide. Grima won several awards for his contribution to the jewellery industry including the Duke of Edinburgh Prize and 13 De Beers Diamond Awards, more than any other jeweller.

Omega hired Grima to design a special collection of Men's and Ladies watches called "About Time". These watches were popular in the 60's and 70's, famous for their multi-faceted thick sapphire crystals and minimalist modern dials. They featured Swiss made precision mechanical manual wind Omega movements with modern era design elements that distinguished this collection from any other in the world.
