19 types of posts to create on LinkedIn

Wondering what types of posts to create on LinkedIn? Here are a few ideas for you. Make sure that you have at least one type of post like this in your Evyrgreen asset library to help you always have something that you can post on LinkedIn.

The right marketing strategy will save you a decade. - Joe Apfelbaum

The key is to know in ADVANCE what you can post about and the type of post it will be so you never have to overthink posting.

If you have a great idea, sure, go ahead and post it. But if you don't have a good idea on that day, just go back to the well and grab one of your posts.

Here goes the 19 IDEAS! You ready? BTW, Like this post at anytime if you are getting value! Leave a comment with your fav idea!

The Plain Text LinkedIn Post

When you are posting a plain text post on LinkedIn, they surprisingly do well! You do not have to overthink it, you just need a HOOK to draw people in, then you need some MEAT to get your audience to keep reading and at the very end, make sure you have a call to action. The reason you need one is because otherwise people will not take action.

What story or valuable idea do you want to share as a text only post?

Example: Plain Post about what a CEO does

Example: Plain Text Post about Taging People Or Not

Example: Plain Text LinkedIn Post about Target Market

The Video Interview LinkedIn Post

Find someone you care about and interview them about their expertise, it's really easy for you to ask questions to your centers of influence and later share those videos on LinkedIn. You can also make a list of questions for people in your network to interview you and find other thought leaders and ask them if they are willing to interview you! This makes for great content for your asset library.

When was the last time you were interviewed for LinkedIn?

Example: Interview on a podcast and repurposed on LinkedIn

Example: Interview for a Facebook group with Jeff Goldberg

Example: Interview about the lessons I learned in my business to be a better Dad

Example: Interview my LinkedIn connection about their expertise

The LinkedIn Poll Post

For some reason, LinkedIn has really been promoting polls lately. If you post a poll and people engage with your poll, it will go out to many people and will show up often in the LinkedIn Feed. I highly recommend you try out the poll feature but ask yourself: how can I benefit from people interacting with my Poll? Try to make it engaging and entertaining so people will want to contribute to your poll. Use the same format as the text only post with the Hook, Meat and Call to action because you cannot add media to this post. It's text only.

What type of poll will help you identify potential leads and referral partners?

Examples: Check out many of my Polls on LinkedIn by following #mojopolls

Example: LinkedIn Poll about what is most important in your life.

Example: LinkedIn Poll about what problem your business solves

Example: LinkedIn Poll about if webinars still work

The Weekend Inspiration LinkedIn Image Post

People do visit LinkedIn on weekends. How do I know this? I post on the weekends and I get pretty good views and engagement. But the things I post on weekends are more weekend-vibe. Why? Because Weekends are when people have a weekend-vibe mindset, so they are more likely to interact with a post that matches their mood. For example, you might have a picture of your favorite chilling spot on weekends or an activity that you do on weekends - share that and talk about how you have balance and ask people what they do for balance on weekends.

What type of images do you have that you can share on LinkedIn on weekends?

Example: A photo of me by the beach relaxing and asking people how they relax

The Screencast Video Tip LinkedIn Post

I always share tips on LinkedIn and I share my screen in videos to show people how I do things like edit podcasts, use canva to create graphic design or just use LinkedIn. When I create those screen shares, they are like mini webinars or courses that people enjoy watching. I use screencast-o-matic to create screencasts or snagit, and it's really helpful for people that want to learn and grow. I sometimes just share slides in a screenshare and give some tips. You don't have to overthink sharing your screen as a video. This is a good style post for people who maybe are not ready to share their face talking but are ok sharing their voice.

What tips can you give in a few minutes and share your screen with your voice?

Example: Screencast of LinkedIn Creator Mode

The Selfie with a LinkedIn connection Image Post

Personally there is no better way to build a connection with someone and a memory at the same time than taking a selfie. It really connects people, at least that is what I have found. When I have a great conversation with someone and I like the person, I want to take a selfie with them to remember the moment. Go out and meet your connections on LinkedIn and take a selfie with them, you can share those as a post and people will enjoy reading about your interactions with your other connections.

Who did you take a selfie with that you are connected to on LinkedIn that you can share?

Example: A selfie with Nick Kraus and Chris Vaglio

Example: A selfie with Joe Rojas

Example: A collection of selfies with people I met at a networking event

The Text Only Question or Request for help LinkedIn Post

I often post questions for my audience on LinkedIn or a request for help. People are super helpful and they want to add value. You can have a list of questions that you like to ask to get people thinking or for people to mention other people. This is a great community-building strategy that will keep you top of mind and in the center of your connections conversations.

What questions can you ask your connections to get them thinking or for them to help you?

Example: Text post looking for Amazon gurus

Example: Text post looking for creative solutions to generate DEMOs

Example: Post looking for copywriter

The Screenshot of a LinkedIn recommendation Post

When someone leaves you a recommendation on LinkedIn, you have the opportunity to screenshot the recommendation and share it with the world. Why? Because LinkedIn does not automatically show people your recommendations and if someone left you a recommendation, be proud of that recommendation and share it with your network.

What recommendations are you really proud of that you want to share with your network?

Example: Screenshot of Samantha Morris recommending my workshop

Example:

The image of a popular quote LinkedIn Post

There are two types of quotes that I share on LinkedIn, the ones that I come up with and the ones that inspire me and get me to think. Both of those quotes can be shared as an image or text only. You can brand it with your brand via Canva or you can find them on Google and share generic images of the quotes that inspire you. People love reading quotes because it makes them think and helps them create new connections in their mind.

What quotes do you want to share as a LinkedIn post?

Example: Quote about growth

Example: Quote about independence

Example: Quote about gratitude

The book feature LinkedIn image Post

The books that changed my life are books that I read over and over again because they are great reminders for me. Those books are also great reminders for the people in my network and everyone loves a good book. There are people that are looking for recommendations for books and you might just help them find that perfect one they need by posting a photo of a book.

What books have inspired you that you want to share an image of on LinkedIn?

Example: Promoting High Energy Purpose

Example:

The Infographic LinkedIn Image Post

There are millions of infographics that are available online and people love those amazing infographics. Find a few that are related to the things you like to post about and keep them in your library for you to share on a regular basis. I share infographics about sales, marketing, networking and personal development.

What infographics do you have in your asset library that you can share on LinkedIn?

Example: Infographic about making a million dollars

Example:

Example:

Screenshot of a Zoom meeting LinkedIn Post

We are all on Zoom meetings now more than ever and it's really easy to take a screenshot of a Zoom meeting that you are on with people when they have their video on. Just let everyone know that you want to take a screenshot so people can look into the camera and smile and the people that do not want to be shared can turn off their camera. Most people love when you share with permission so go ahead and take a permission based screenshot and share it as a LinkedIn post.

What virtual events are you going to that you can screenshot and share as a LinkedIn post?

Example: Screenshot of a Virtual Networking event

Example: Screenshot of a meeting with a mastermind group

Example: Screenshot of a Virtual LinkedIn Local meeting

The raw spontaneous video LinkedIn Post

Pull out your cell phone and you will find it has a pretty good camera on it. Now all you need to do is record yourself talking about an important topic. No need to introduce yourself or the topic, get right into it. Don't talk about what you are going to talk about, just talk and add value. Keep it short and to the point, end with some thought or call to action and share that raw video with your audience, it's a great way to connect with people. If you can add captions, go ahead and do it because 80% of people watch videos on mute but if you cant, post it anyway because the people that actually listen to your voice and watch your video will create a bond with you that a regular post can't create.

What tips, reminders or ideas do you want to share in a raw LinkedIn Video?

Example: Video about saying no to fear

Example: Video about giving life 100%

Example: Video about the value of preparation

Photo of family or hobby LinkedIn Post

I like taking photos of my kids, parents, siblings and the activities that I enjoy as a hobby. Take some photos that tell your personal story and share that with your audience. Why? Because it will make you more relatable. You want people trust you and connect with you, and the way that you do that is to share your life with those people. Now, remember that there is a difference between getting personal and being private. You do not share the details of your divorce publicly or other private matters, instead share your story and your life in the best possible way. Even challenges that you have overcome or that you are still facing without sharing private details can be a great way to build a bond with your audience.

What personal photos or hobbies would you like to post about on LinkedIn?

Example: Photo of me with my father

Example: Photo of me with my brother

Example:

The PDF document LinkedIn Post

For some reason the algorithm really likes when you share a PDF document on LinkedIn. So create a few documents that are interesting and share them on LinkedIn. I have a speaker one-page that I recently uploaded as a LinkedIn post and people loved to see it. I also share interesting PDFs that I export from Canva that give people ideas and tips.

What Documents can you share on LinkedIn as a post?

Example:

Example:

The Animated gif LinkedIn Post

The reason I like animated Gifs is because it really grabs the attention of people going through the feed. Stops people in their tracks and gets them to pay attention. Advertising on LinkedIn currently does not allow animated gifs but you can post them as a post and people can interact with them. You can quickly create animations on Google Photos by selecting two photos and clicking create animation. Then you can add it to your library.

What animations will you start posting on LinkedIn to get more attention?

Example: Animated GIF of my son playing basketball

Example:

Example:

The audiogram video LinkedIn Post

If you are ever on a podcast, take that interview and create short audio grams from it to share on LinkedIn as a video. People appreciate listening and watching audiograms and it's become a very popular way to share content. You can also record yourself sharing tips and ideas as audio only and have someone make audiograms for your asset library. Always remember to add captions to audiograms because people will be reading along as they listen!

What audiograms will you post on LinkedIn?

Example:

Example:

Example:

The text only creative engagement Post

I love creating engagement on LinkedIn and you can do that with a creative TEXT only post. Tell people to like the post if they are looking at LinkedIn on a weekend. Tell them to take their favorite lawyer and you tag a few dozen in the comments. Tell people to experiment with you and see how many people get involved. I always love testing because marketing is about testing.

What interesting creative text only engagement posts are you going to share on LinkedIn?

Example: Engagement post about inspiration

Example:

The promote your services Image Post

I left this one for last because it's IMPORTANT and most people forget to do this on LinkedIn. If you want people to know what you do, you cannot just post ideas, tips and stories all the time, you have to post about your business 10 to 20% of the time. Do not be afraid to promote your products or service but be smart about it. Don't just advertise, instead mix in a good hook, a smart story or a REASON for people to think about what you do for a living. Talk about WHY you DO what you DO! Put your elevator pitch and get feedback. There are endless ways to promote your webinar, seminars, events, books, and products. The key is to do it in a classy way and in a way that people will interact with those post as well!

What services, products or events would you like to promote on LinkedIn as a post?

Example: Post promoting my book

Example:

Example:

How often are you posting on LinkedIn?

Remember that the key is to post on a regular basis so that people in your life remember that you exist. The more top of mind you are and the more value you add to people in your network, the more likely you will be that people will remember you when the time is right.
