IS 18755: Revolutionizing Tri-Ply Stainless Steel-Aluminium Kitchenware

Tri-Ply Stainless Steel Aluminium Stainless Steel (SS-Al-SS) is an advanced composite material widely used in manufacturing premium cookware and utensils. It combines the benefits of stainless steel and aluminum to deliver quality in cooking applications. To assist manufacturers in the production and quality control of cookware, the Bureau of Indian Standards has developed guidelines and specifications under IS 18755 that help maintain the Indian standards. This standard ensure that products manufactured from Tri-Ply SS-Al-SS not only meet consumer expectations but also comply with industry regulations for safety, quality, and performance. Tri-Ply SS-Al-SS cookware is designed with three distinct layers:

? Outer Layer (Stainless Steel): Provides corrosion resistance, durability, and a non-reactive surface, ensuring safety for food contact.

? Core Layer (Aluminum): Ensures uniform heat distribution due to aluminum's excellent thermal conductivity, preventing hotspots.

? Inner Layer (Stainless Steel): Offers a smooth, easy-to-clean, and food-safe cooking surface, resistant to scratches and staining.

This innovative multi-layer design ensures that the cookware delivers excellent performance, superior durability, and enhanced energy efficiency for everyday cooking.

Salient Features of IS 18755

? Chemical Composition

According to the IS 18755 the aluminum used in the middle layer should be carefully selected for its quality and performance, ensuring it meets the required standards for strength and reliability. The stainless steel layers on the top and bottom must provide durability, corrosion resistance, and a safe cooking surface, making the material ideal for long-lasting and high-performance cookware.

? Manufacturing Process

Complying with the IS 18755, Tri-Ply Stainless Steel-Aluminium-Stainless Steel must follow a certain manufacturing process and have three-layer cladded metal. With an aluminum matrix at its core, it needs to be created through a high-pressure rolling process. This method ensures the layers bond together seamlessly and continuously at a metallurgical level. During production, the coils may be heated in-line before being joined through rolling.

With the increasing demand for energy-efficient materials that offer superior corrosion resistance in cookware, the need for advanced materials has never been greater. This drive to meet stringent and diverse requirements, coupled with the enthusiasm to identify and create new standards, has led to the development of the Tri-Ply material standard for utensils. This new standard ensures that Tri-Ply SS-Al-SS cookware meets high-quality benchmarks, providing consumers with durable, efficient, and safe cooking solutions. The continuous evolution of these standards reflects a commitment to innovation and performance in the cookware industry.
