Bleeding Rakhine: 18 were killed in front of Sabekun Nahar
Sabekun Nahar (18) was sitting by the road of Cox's Bazar-Teknaf with her one-year-old bab. In mid-October 2017, a rain-soaked evening that stopped shortly before dusk, she was washed away with the rain water with her children. Her husband, Nurus Salam, has a few polythene bags full with family goods. Their home was in the Tongbazar area of Buthidaung in Rakhine. Waiting for the Bangladesh Army will enlisted her at the refugee camp.
Sabekun Nahar has crossed the Bangladesh border walking for 14 days. With them, two thousand Rohingyas came to Shahpari Island in Bangladesh crossing the Naf River by boat. She said she could not close her eye for a moment in 14 days. Hungry mother breast feeding child Nahar said her innocent child became weak without breast-feeding.
Sabekun Nahar is carrying a terrible wound. Eighteen of her family members have been killed in the brutal massacre. Shedding tears Nahar said they had been in hiding for over a month. They wanted to live in their own land in Rakhine. Their house was off the road and in the hills. Every day, before the sun rises, he would leave his house and hid in the mountains and come back home when the sun was setting. They thought it would be normal soon. The massacre and setting fire will be stopped. They will begin a normal life in Tongbazar of Rakhine. They thought that the Rohingyas who had fled to Bangladesh could also return home.
Myanmar soldiers cordoned off their homes on the night of October 2. No one dare to get out of the house. Some relatives from other villages took shelter in their house situated in a isolated area. When they asked everybody to come out and stand in the courtyard, she realized that all their dreams of survival were over.
The assailants brought everyone into the courtyard and opened fire. She was two of her elder brother, brother-in-law, elder sister, her son and daughter lost life with loud screaming. The innocent Rohingyas were shot in the courtyard and chopped with sharp weapons indiscriminately. The dead-bodies were pulled with bayonet to ensure death. They kicked the bodies of the dead and used slender languages to the Rohingyas. Early in the morning, every house was set on fire.
Sabekun Nahar started walking to Bangladesh early in the morning witnessing the dead-bodies of her18 relatives. Sabekun Nahar said that on the 14th day of walk, at least two thousand Rohingyas were added to the row. At night, everyone took shelter in a safe mountain resting for a while. But when Sabekun Nahar closes her eyes, she remembers the brutal massacre. So she didn't try to sleep. She cannot believe the death of her two brothers and older sister. She said, her lost brothers were the best brothers in the world.
