18 Productivity Hacks

We asked UO HQ and students from our community their tips for making room to focus. Here’s what they had to say about their study space…

1. Shared study spaces

Work somewhere public like a cafe, library or communal living area. Having peers watch you makes me want to do my work

2. Bring the vibes

Put some tunes on, have a couple snacks near me and just zone out

3. Social detox

Limit distractions by putting your phone away and take time away from social media. Plus change up DND (do not disturb) settings and screen time limits on your phone.

4. Start the morning right

Get up first thing, make your bed and then I don't get back in it.

5. Tidy desk, tidy mind

Keeping your work space neat and organised helps me think.

6. Set the mood

Use mood lighting if working in the evening

7. Plan your time

Have a visual planner close by to organise your week and remain focused on your tasks

8. Fuel your mind

Eat something tasty and nutritious before getting stuck in

9. Break up the day

Split up your day into manageable chunks of productivity

10. Fit in a work out

Getting exercise boosts your serotonin levels

11. Meet up with a friend

Plan time with someone on your course to help you revise and support you where needed and brainstorm together

12. Stay comfy

Wear your favourite iets frans… set to ensure your comfortable wherever you work

13. Pomodoro Technique

Time management method involving 25 minutes of focused work split up by five minute breaks. Gives your brain time to process and digest the information.

14. Break up your tasks

Split your to-do list into quick ticks, main tasks, longer projects. By breaking down your tasks it helps prioritise your time and efficiently get your to-do list done.

15. Stay hydrated

Drink lots of water throughout the day to improve your memory and attention

16. Socialising

Don’t be afraid to say no to plans. Setting boundaries is a major key to productivity

17. Try an app

Forest is a helpful focus app where you can plant a virtual garden

18. Block out time

Use a time-blocking calendar to help manage your time
