  • Wickes Invests in UK Solar Installer Solar Fast - UK home improvement retailer Wickes Group plc has acquired a 51% stake in the parent company of British solar installer Solar Fast in a drive to expand its offering into the home energy market.   • Reimagining the Future of Solar Energy - New research suggests that there might be other ways to generate solar energy than just trying to make individual solar cells super-efficient. One idea in this area is to make solar cells more efficient by concentrating more solar light onto them. While investigating this recently, a group of scientists at the Cavendish Laboratory and AMOLF (Amsterdam NL) have found that improving solar cells efficiency in this way is harder than we might think but have discovered other avenues by which it might be possible to improve solar energy capture anywhere on the planet.   • UK's Largest Solar Project Launched at Port of Liverpool - Peel Ports Group, the UK’s second-largest port operator, has announced a partnership with E.ON. The collaboration marks the initiation of a series of projects, starting with plans to install what is described as?the UK’s largest roof-mounted solar energy system at the Port of Liverpool. This project, forming part of a 25-year agreement between the two companies, could potentially see the installation of up to 63,000 solar panels across 26 buildings within the port, generating up to 31MW of renewable energy.   • Statera Secures Planning Consent for 1.7GWh Devon-based BESS - UK-based energy company Statera Energy has secured planning consent for a 290MW/1,740MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) to be developed near the county capital, Exeter. Granted by East Devon District Council, the BESS will be capable of providing energy for six hours, with the project expected to be connected to the grid in 2027.   • RWE Commences Construction on Inaugural Solar Farms in the UK - RWE takes a major step towards its inaugural UK solar farms, initiating construction on seven projects totaling 330MW. Acquired from JBM Solar, this marks a significant step in RWE’s commitment to UK clean energy investment. RWE's acquisition of approximately 3.8GW of solar capacity and 2.3GW of battery development projects establishes it as a leading solar developer in the UK, underlining the company’s dedication to investing in clean energies in the region.   • FRV and Harmony Energy Launch UK 99MW/198MWh BESS Project - Fotowatio Renewable Ventures (FRV), part of Abdul Latif Jameel Energy, and UK-based Harmony Energy have energised the 99MW/198 megawatt-hour (MWh) Clay Tye battery energy storage system (BESS) in Essex, UK. One of the largest operational projects of its kind in Europe, the system can power 300,000 homes for two hours.   • Amazon Agrees Renewable Energy Deal with World’s Second Largest Offshore Wind Farm - Iberdrola, one of the world’s largest clean energy companies, and Amazon have expanded their long-term global clean power partnership by signing a major renewable energy power purchase agreement (PPA) for 159 MW of East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm in the UK, equivalent to 700 gigawatt-hours GWh of clean electricity per-year.   • RWE Acquires Land Option for UK Green Hydrogen Project - RWE is progressing with plans for a green hydrogen plant, in one of its core development areas Teeside: announcing it has acquired a significant land option at Wilton International. The company is developing opportunities for a large-scale green hydrogen production plant at the site with an initial size of up to 260MWe electrolyser and the ability to produce up to 5 tphr of green hydrogen.   • Businesses Invited to Bid to Build and Run Oldham Council's New Solar Farm - Oldham Council is inviting businesses to tender for a £1.2 million contract to deliver a major new solar farm in the borough. The site at Wrigley Head, Failsworth, is the council’s first solar farm and is a key project in our Green New Deal - our strategy to make Oldham Council buildings carbon neutral by 2025, followed by the whole borough by 2030.   • Centrica Signs Solar Power Deal for Aerospace Manufacturing Site - Centrica has finalised a solar power agreement with aerospace manufacturer Moog Inc.This agreement aims to support Moog Inc.’s efforts in decarbonising its aerospace manufacturing site located in Wolverhampton.
