Book Writing 101
Most book publishing companies or book writing websites will not tell you what I am about to share in this newsletter. Either they are not very good at coming up with ideas about leveraging your book, or they want you to buy their expensive marketing services that rarely work for nonfiction authors.
Today, I want to open your eyes to the abundance of opportunities that will be available to you once you write and publish your book.?
Remember: A book is an expensive and time-consuming hobby if it is not properly leveraged.
17 Ways To Leverage Your Book
Here are 17 ways you can use a book in your business. Respond to this newsletter and let me know if I have missed any. By the way, my favorites are items #4, #9, and #16.
#1 Land Speaking Engagements
Example: Create a talk around your book and set up a speaking tour. Sell your book at the event.
#2 Negotiate Speaker Fees
Example: Sometimes, an event or venue has no budget to pay speakers but will purchase copies of your book for every attendee.
#3 Podcast Tours
Example: Schedule several podcast interviews about your book to be released at the same time as your book to create a buzz and generate book sales.
#4 Bulk Sales for Events
Example: Contact event coordinators about including your book in their swag bag. The WeDay event ordered almost 4000 copies of one of my books for their event.
#5 Bulk Sales for Education
Example: Most school districts have a book budget. Find out if your book’s content aligns with their strategic initiatives for the year. I’ve sold thousands of books this way.
#6 Bulk Sales for Organizations
Example: Find industry associates or non-profits where your book is a natural fit and contact their coordinator. This can also generate opportunities for you to host a workshop, virtual talk or in-person event.
#7 Bulk Sales for Corporate
Example: If you have a book that aligns with a particular department or the leadership team, reach out about bundling your book and hosting a talk. This is a great way to get your foot in the door to do business together. Companies will pay big for implementation.
#8 Lunch & Learns
Example: If you are a consultant, pitch hosting a lunch and learn to an organization. This amped up version of a book club is how you build relationships within a company.

#9 Professional Workshops
Example: Host these at industry events or within an organization to offer a quick implementation win of the material in your book.
#11 Repurpose into Workbooks
Example: Once you’ve written your book, people must take action on the material. A workbook creates another revenue stream and a tool for working with individuals and organizations.
#12 Repurpose for Digital Programs
Example: Turn your book’s content into a digital course. You can sell this as a DIY or layer coaching with it. Use this as a tool to help people implement the content from your book.
#13 College-Accredited Course
Example: Create a virtual college course based on your book. Two of my books were turned into courses and are now offered at 27-accredited colleges.
#14 RFP Line Item
Example: Do you want to work with the government or large educational institutions? The fastest way to get started is to go through the RFP process and get approved as a vendor.
#15 TEDx Talks
A TED Talk is a great way to get your name and thought leadership out there. However, I would not do one until I had a book that supported my talk because it’s a missed opportunity to expand your reach.
#16 Lead Generation
Example: Your author's cost to purchase copies of your book is around $3.50. Send a copy of your book (in a bright envelope) to your ideal client. It’s an inexpensive way to open the door to a big business opportunity.
#17 Lead Repeller
Use your book to repel people not a good fit for your business. Including this on the list may sound funny, but time is money. Bad-fit prospects eat up precious time and resources (for both parties).
I hope that this list created some new ideas for you and helped you think differently in the following ways:
→ Whether writing a book is a good use of your time.
→ Whether you have properly leveraged your book.
→ Whether writing a book will help your business.
Until next week,
