17 ways to retrieve knowledge difficult to access
Overstayed specialists and old experts monopolize uniqueness. They confuse undocumented approaches, postpone implementation of changes, lie about difficulty of formalization and impossibility to transfer experience. They trail to work when they are ill, rarely take a vacation not accepting co-workers can get along without them.
Outdated measuring instruments, ancient programming languages, suspicious algorithms and long formulas are wonderful decorations of knowledge obsolescence. There are no people willing to learn retrograde approaches and argue with “old stumps”, so old-schoolers get bold with impunity.
It is unpleasant to interact, scary to get along, so the old-schoolers just indulge their glitter importance and do not get anything new. Gangrene of incredulity poisons the team, trolls openly sharpen their fangs. Exclusion blooms with active mold, decrepit ones cling to rusty handrails, enforcement to peace is inevitable.
Strengths are extension of weaknesses, greedy is a harbinger of fear, pressure is a sign of poor judgement. Act firmly, but carefully and stop citing King Solomon’s: “In much wisdom is much grief”.
1. Do not try to negotiate with “Tortillas” – they are not young and wild anymore. Firmly and with respect suggest automating routine, put a curious intern with a mission on them.
2. Elaborate performance indicators influencing dinosaurs’ income, so the risk of losing their earnings makes them act faster.
3. Make up credible excuses to get “burden” of floor: revision of remote brunches, audit of low-valued departments, training of mediocre subsidiaries.
4. Leave methodological research and regulatory framework to old-schoolers to force them to share their knowledge and participate in corporate documentation.
5. Force to prepare reports industry-specific and internal conferences. Perform in front of beginners, give orientation workshops, make questionnaires and assess candidates.
6. Negotiate with co-workers to doubt conclusion and recommendations, provoke snippy ones to choose arguments more carefully.
7. Create circles of competition pitting bored ones against each other in moderated discussions, document and record it.
8. Entertain those who stick to work place, stimulate interest, turn restraint on – let them break through raising successors.
9. Fake situations of catastrophic postpone, make sloths be responsible for failures and losses. Do not yell at them! Let them stew in their own delicious juices.
10. Involve postponed ones into learning innovative programs, make the process of perceiving difficult, perhaps they understand hints experiencing difficulties themselves.
11. Find internally sustainable and externally helpless ones, run the legend of franchising new territory irreplaceable ones are cloned for.
12. Provide security for those who do not want to share knowledge, leave them without necessity to hold the life ring making up a story about haven.
13. Encourage writing conceptual monography, make it a small release as practical value is obvious.
14. Publicly point out importance and prospects of formalized knowledge, more frequently praise those who succeeded in documentation.
15. Encourage extraordinariness of mapping – filling blank space in a know-how atlas.
16. Optimize a process and track progress: identify milestones, chop wide roads, reap harvest of knowledge.
17. Fleur will inevitably work: wide eyes of the opposite gender. Cheap but the end justifies as you failed previous approaches.
Wisdom fades, skeletons of sense gather dust in fireproof lockers. It is not bad to explain but better to teach. Knowledge is dead without followers and fades if hidden. We can waste away musty scrolls and let curious ones to coffers and be happy shining of talented eyes.
Force tricky ones to peace, choose the right side and let knowledge be with you!
