I’m a content strategist and copywriter for heart-centered entrepreneurs. (I mainly work with coaches and instructors in business, wellness, personal development, and the arts.)?
What does this cute phrase “heart-centered entrepreneur” mean? You may have heard it so much that you think it’s cliché. Still, I like this phrase, and I’m writing this post because I want to know who else is a heart-centered entrepreneur.
In my opinion, being a heart-centered entrepreneur means two things: You chose the type of business you do because you love it, and you love other people so you want to help them.
The opposite of a heart-centered entrepreneur would be one who’s just in it for the money. Or someone who started a business just to show off to others – they think being an entrepreneur instantly makes them worthy of fame and prestige.
What kind of entrepreneur are you?
Read these signs to see if you’re a heart-centered entrepreneur:
- You started your business for more than just making money, “be your own boss,” and “laptop lifestyle.”
- You chose your niche because it’s what you love, not because you thought it would be the most profitable niche. The type of work you do aligns with something you naturally like.
- When you create content, it’s not just to get more sales or followers. You really want to create good content because the content means something to you and you hope it’ll be meaningful for others too. When thinking of content topics, you think more about what you want to say to the world, and what your audience needs help with, than what’s effective for SEO. You use SEO but you don’t want to put out purely SEO-focused content that isn’t helpful to real people.
- In your content, you’re willing to admit your struggles and flaws instead of curating a flawless image of yourself. (I’m going to make a future post about why and how to be vulnerable in your content…)
- If a potential client isn’t sure about working with you, you don’t try to convince/persuade them to work with you. Instead, you help them make the decision that’s best for them, whether it means working with you or not.?
- You don’t only care about getting the sale and that’s it. Getting the sale is just the beginning. You actually want your programs to be high-quality and help people get results.
- Your free webinars are helpful for everyone who watches, even people who don’t buy your offer at the end.
- You don’t mind giving people some tips and advice for free, because for you, everything isn’t always about “How can I make money from this?” (I’ll never forget a story I saw on Instagram one day: Someone said, “Do you only want to help people who can pay you?”)
- You believe in collaboration over competition. No gatekeeping – you don’t mind giving your so-called “competitors” advice on how to succeed, because you genuinely want them to succeed.
- Networking is about how you can help others, not just what they can do for you.
- Had a big income month in your business? Great, now you’re able to donate more to charity.
- When a client/student doesn’t understand what you’re teaching them or doesn’t get the results you expected, the first thing you think about is how you could have done better. THEN you consider that the client/student may not have made a great effort.
- When someone on your team makes a mistake, the first thing you think about is what you could’ve done to better communicate with them. THEN you consider how the other person may have been at fault.
- When you hire someone, you pay them well. You don’t want to pay cheap rates because you genuinely want to support them and be a part of their success.
- You don’t do anything in your biz that you wouldn’t want your clients and audience to know about because you’d be embarrassed and ashamed. (I’m talking about fake scarcity and other dishonest things.)
- You’re a coach or expert who has no problem working with a coach or expert yourself. You are humble and take their advice seriously because you know they know more than you do in some areas.
- You get tired of your business sometimes and want to take a break, but still… there’s something about your business that makes you happy. Your business is not an annoying thing you force yourself to do to make a living. It’s a part of you that needs to be expressed.
