17 selected and verified moves/promos in the global gas markets

We start off this edition at Pavilion Energy in Madrid, Tahiry Razafintsalama onboarded to be Gas Trader as the latest step in his five-year energy trading career, which has already seen him do market analysis in Rome for Engie GEMS and be a junior trader with Energi Danmark Group in Aarhus.

Most recently Tahiry has been in Brussels where he held the position of Gas Trader for European Energy Pooling.

Having been marketing LNG for Qatargas in Doha, Aneil Saraf moves to Eni in London to be Senior LNG Trader. Once with Shell, Aneil had joined the then Qatari LNG company RasGas to advise on markets in European countries. He went on to head marketing into SE Asia before the 2018 RasGas merger with Qatargas, the new entity putting him in charge of LNG origination for Asia.

Daniil Plotnikov leaves Alpiq to switch to Amsterdam and join STX Group, becoming Head -Origination of renewable gas. Previously he’d been at Alpiq Energie Deutschland for five years, in roles including MD and head of origination.

Trianel GmbH brings in Duncan Macintyre from Axpo to become Senior Trader. Duncan had been heading the gas portfolio at Axpo UK since 2016.

These days Edwin Loh is an LNG Trading Analyst at Unipec Singapore, having moved from three years in a similar capacity for Chevron. Edwin was formerly senior research analyst in gas and LNG for IHS Markit.

Giovanni Caporale is confirmed CEO of MET France as the MET Group enters the French market, taking over the natural gas and electricity portfolio of Antargaz. At one time Giovanni headed commercial planning in Paris for Naturgy, before becoming France country manager for Italian power and gas supplier Wekiwi. MET recently announced an agreement to be majority partner in a JV with Keppel to form MET Singapore for trading LNG in Asia.

Jeremy TRICON arrives in Dubai at Balyasny Asset Management to be Portfolio Manager. Jeremy was once a London-based LNG trader, successively at Koch S&T, Tellurian and Jera Global Markets. Since 2021 he’s been trading energy for Freepoint.

Over to the UK arm of EPH Group, where Callum Walsh is Trader in gas and power at EP UK Investments (EPUKi). It follows a year spent trading power at Habitat Energy and he’s also gathered experience of the renewables sector when with Opus Energy.

Equinor Natural Gas in Connecticut has a new President, with the uptick of Nicholas Potter from heading its gas trading in North America. In addition, Nicholas becomes a board member of East Point Energy. He started at Equinor as a principal on the natural gas desk in 2018 after rising to VP-Commodities covering natural gas and LNG at Barclays Investment Bank in New York.

Chris Arnold started his career as a gas operator at Centrica before moving to Gazprom as a European gas analyst later transitioning into a hybrid role of analyst/trader. Both at JPMorgan and his latest move to SEFE M&T he has held the title of Natural Gas Trader.

Another incomer at SEFE M&T is Tomos Edwards , formerly of Octopus Energy, where he lead the UK trading activity, and before that in quantitative trading at Shell Energy UK. His new duties are as Team Lead – Gas Trading, Sales Portfolio Optimisation.

A change within Houston to report for CW McCullagh , who leaves BP after 18 years for a Natural Gas Trader position with Glencore. His BP career had opened in 2005 with co-ordinating distribution for the NGL trading bench. Among later slots were in gas origination and managing the trading desk for natural gas in the North-East U.S. and Mid-Atlantic zones.

Clarissa Garcia Smith is the new team member at DRW, as its MD-Natural Gas Origination. She joins from being the VP and then ED of North American gas and power in New York and Houston for Morgan Stanley. Before that Clarissa had handled natural gas logistics as a Goldman Sachs VP and she traded gas while with BP.

News from BlueCrest Capital Management of its recruitment of Alex Watson for Senior Portfolio Manager, after he’d been EDFT’s head of natural gas trading since 2021. His other trader stints in gas and energy have been with Citi and Freepoint.

Next, a move to EnBW to report for Rohit Lad in London. He’s gone from being Portfolio Gas Trader with Axpo to be EnBW’s latest Short-Term Intraday Gas Manager. Rohit has previously been a gas shift trader for Centrica and co-ordinator of sales and transportation of hydrocarbons at Spirit Energy.

Misha Wolynski also has EnBW on his resumé - he was in Karlsruhe as a senior trader in structured gas and options until mid-2022. From there he went to Hamburg, becoming a Vattenfall lead gas trader. Now Misha has relocated to Singapore. With new employer ENGIE he’s made Senior Gas Options Trader.

Which brings us finally this time to the arrival of Joe Phillips at Gunvor. Joe branched into gas/power markets when joining Nanook Energy Advisors in London to be a quant analyst. He added energy assets know-how from forecasting for UBS and this has now led to Gunvor choosing him for Natural Gas Analyst.
