?? IN THE NEWS
April 24 is Fashion Revolution Day, marking the 2013 collapse of the Rana Plaza building. Represented in over 75 countries, Fashion Revolution is a global movement with a collective vision for a fashion industry that values people over profit. Its annual campaign Fashion Revolution Week brings together the world's largest fashion activist voices for seven days of action to transform the fashion system for good.
In the wake of the 2013′s deadly factory collapse in Dhaka, more than 200 brands signed the Bangladesh Accord, a legally binding safety pact. As the agreement expands internationally, BoF unpacks why it’s widely viewed as fashion’s most effective safety campaign, how it can help brands address new sustainability regulations, and what limitations remain.
?? IN THE SPOTLIGHT
On April 24 during the Fashion Revolution Day, State of Fashion invites you to donate the clothes you no longer wear during a collection event at Audrey Hepburnplein in Arnhem. Anyone who wants to donate clothing can do so between 12:00 and 17:00. All collected clothing will be part of the installation KLEIDUNGSAFFE by Melatie Suryodarmo, part of the State of Fashion Biennale 2024: Ties that Bind. The installation can be visited in Museum Arnhem from May 17 to June 30.

?? STATE OF FASHION ABROAD
Curated by Rachel Dedman and Louise Bennetts , State of Fashion 2024: Ties that Bind brings together creative practices in fashion, textiles, and contemporary art from across the Global South. This edition of the Biennale explores the complexities of tradition, the political power of clothing, and alternative approaches to exploitative fashion systems.??
At the heart of Ties that Bind is a decentralized structure. The Biennale unfolds across four places: the home site in Arnhem, the Netherlands, and three sister sites in Nairobi, Kenya, Bengaluru, India, and S?o Paulo, Brazil. In each sister site, an interlocutor-curator - Sunny Dolat , Kallol Datta, and Hanayrá Negreiros – has been invited to develop a state-of-the-art project that responds to the Biennale’s themes from their perspective, embedded in their local context and community.
