16 years

16 may not be the answer to The question about the universe, life and everything, but 16 years is a very long time. Long enough for a man to forget many details. So, I don't know exactly what was happening on October 27, 2003, but I remembered what happened that day.

At that time, I took over the steering wheel of Avto Magazin, the most famous, most influential and most professional motoring magazine in our country. It has been on sale continuously since 1967, which is a record not only among motoring magazines but also among Slovenian magazines in general.

Much has changed at Avto Magazin in 16 years. The magazine is now a monthly, we got a website that is the most visited specialized car & motorcycle website in our country, we are at home on the social networks, video is something that we produce almost daily.

The same is true for the team: some members joined it since I became Editor-in-Chief, some of those who were on the team at that time found new ways or unfortunately left us completely, but there is one I distinctly remember from the time I took over the Avto Magazin: Sasa Kapetanovic was an young photographer at the time, who only wanted to do two things: to photograph cars and race them. He has done a tremendous amount of both over the past 16 years, becoming editor of photography, test team leader and this year also the managing editor of Avto Magazin digital newsroom.

Why am I writing about him? Because he has become the new Editor-in-Chief of the entire Avto Magazin on October 27, exactly 16 years after I got the opportunity. I am convinced that he will be at least as good, consistent and also a bold editor as I was, and that he will successfully lead the magazine into the digital age.

And me? It is not hard for me to admit that these 16 years were very busy, but I enjoyed it. Not only because of the thousands of cars I tested, but mainly because I always had an exceptional team that I could trust. Thank you, Sasa, thank you, Sebastjan, thank you, Peter, thank you, Tomaz, thank you, Matija, Jure, Matev? and many others. And thanks to Aljosa, even though you won't be able to read it. Without a team, 16 would be just a number, but with such a team these are years of creativity and fun among friends.

It was great. All 16 years. I believe that the next at least 16 in the new job will be equally interesting, exhausting, enjoyable - and electric, as I’m leaving Avto Magazin to help lead Porsche Slovenia’s charge into new, electric mobility. I know it will be even more busy, and challenging, but I also know it will be exciting and fun.

Besides ... you know how it is: there are only right and left turn, but there are endless challenges between them, and I always enjoy the way, not only the destination.
