?? IN THE NEWS

Many Returned and unsold clothes end up destroyed in Europe

Although data are scattered, best available evidence suggests that around 4-9% of all textile products put on the European market are destroyed without ever being used for their intended purpose. According to the EEA briefing, processing and destructing returned or unsold textiles can be estimated to be responsible for up to 5,6 million tonnes of CO2-equivalent greenhouse gas emissions, a figure that is slightly lower that Sweden’s net emissions in 2021. Stated in a report by Tom Duhoux made for the European Environment Agency.

France Considers Penalties on Fast Fashion Companies to Offset Their Environmental Impact

France stands at the precipice of marking another milestone in the global battle against the fast fashion paradigm, thanks to French MP Antoine Vermorel Marques’s daring proposal. The proposed €5 surcharge on every fast fashion item sold could be another confident stride towards initiating real, tangible change in the face of ultra-fast fashion’s environmental and social devastation, led by giants like SHEIN and Temu. This move, placed within the broader legislative efforts of France’s centre-right Horizons Group, seeks to tilt the scales, strengthening “made in France” over “made in China” goods. But the burning question remains: Is this enough to turn the tide? Peel back the layers with COSH! Conscious Shopping Made Easy .

First conference of the European Fashion Alliance

On March 5th, the European Fashion Alliance held their first conference ‘The Status of European Fashion’, in Brussels, Belgium. The event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and stakeholders who discussed crucial topics shaping the future of European fashion. In preparation for the conference, EFA conducted a comprehensive Europe-wide survey on the impending sustainability legislation affecting the fashion industry, which results and recommendations will be published until end of April. The survey aimed to assess the current state of the European fashion landscape and identify significant challenges and opportunities in anticipation of impending regulatory changes. First learnings were presented to the audience.

?? PIONEER IN THE SPOTLIGHT

Fashion designer and pioneer Joline Jolink moved from Rotterdam to a farm in Welsum (Overijssel) in 2023. The goal: to provide insight into the entire process, from raw material to end product, in a place that brings together her design studio, workshop, shop and permaculture. To achieve that goal, the old chick shed must be renovated and Jolink is looking for financing for this with a crowdfunding campaign.

We were honored to create the crowdfunding video. Check out the video and find out more about this special regenerative fashion project.

Of course we donated, and now they are already on 75%! Donate now and let's make it 200%! Let's make a change together!

We are beyond proud to share more about the international campaign we are currently working on for our client State of Fashion ! Every two years, State of Fashion hosts a major public event known as the Biennale, where urgent themes are explored through exhibitions, public programs, conferences, talks, and workshops. Curated by Rachel Dedman and Louise Bennetts, the Biennale titled "State of Fashion 2024: Ties that Bind" will focus on bringing together creative practices in fashion, textiles, and contemporary art from across the Global South. This edition aims to delve into the complexities of tradition, the political power of clothing, and alternative approaches to exploitative fashion systems.?

We are honoured to design and roll out this international online and offline campaign unfolding over four locations: Nairobi in Kenya, S?o Paulo in Brasil and Bangalūru in India.
