The 16 DAYS OF ACTIVISM FOR NO VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN AND CHILDREN

#16DaysofActivism runs from 25 November to 10 December and COMMUNITY KEEPERS will participate in the "Behaviour Change Campaign"

Attitudes and behaviour are among the key factors that drive crime and violence against women and children. Violence is a traumatic event and its chronic occurrence has a multiplying effect with #mentalhealth problems being the most prevalent consequence.

Children who experience GBV, including rape, are at higher risk of #depression and #anxiety.

It is estimated that GBVF costs South Africa between R24 billion and 42 billion annually. However, the true impact is severely underestimated as additional social costs that compromise health, mental health, social #wellbeing, productivity, mobility and capacity of survivors to live healthy and fulfilling lives are not fully considered.

#16DaysofActivism takes place at a time when the country and the world are experiencing a global #COVID19 pandemic caused by the #coronavirus. South Africa has seen horrific gender based violence and femicide #GBVF during the national #lockdown period. GBVF has been described as the second pandemic facing the country.

We have been invited by the National Development Agency to join Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities and #NCGBVF at a roundtable discussion tomorrow.
