16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence

Today is day 11 of "16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence". This years' Australian theme is "UNITE! Activism to end Violence against Women and girls".

The 16 Days started on 25 November, which was the "International Day for Elimination of Violence Against Women". It runs until 10 December, which is "Human Rights Day".

I'm sure most of you know why we need to come together and:

  • fight for equality
  • stop the violence
  • ensure everyone's human rights are upheld.

The following video provides an overview of where we are at now. Against the Pushback, We #PushForward.

From this video, it's important that we also consider the vulnerable. This includes:

  • People with a disability
  • Culturally and linguistically divers people
  • LGBTIQ+ people
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
  • Older Australians
  • People from low socio-economic backgrounds
  • And many more.

Call to action

Check out the Red Rose Foundation, 16 Days of Activism video and their call to action.

Also, the 16 Days of Activism 2022 – Respect Women: ‘Call It Out’ (Respect Is) | Respect Victoria video focuses on respect and inclusion across the board.

You can also complete the MATE Bystander training, which provides you with tools, so you feel safe and confident to:

  • directly or indirectly stop violence
  • distract the person being violent
  • use formal, informal or personal protocols to stop violence or behaviours.

Extra MATE Bystander recordings are available online, via the following links:

So, what will you do during the 16 Days of Action to:

  • stop violence against women
  • change the narrative of "When will she be right".
