150@150
Today is one of those feeling good days. I just received the first copy, hot off the press, of 150@150.
For the past two years I have served as the Architectural Foundation of Nebraska, President, an organization focused on highlighting the value of architecture to the public. This weekend is the culmination of an exciting year long project, the launch of a new book on Nebraska’s Landmark Buildings, in concert with the State’s Sesquicentennial, its 150 year anniversary. This has been a wonderful group project in alliance with AIANE. https://durhammuseum.org/event/150-at-150-nebraskas-landmark-buildings-book-launch/
150@150 started with the idea of one representative building each year but at the urging of our accomplished author, Jeff Barnes, progressed to be organized by 15 decades, still represented by 150 buildings. Participating in the selection of 150 representative buildings was challenging, educational and at the end of the day very rewarding. I want to thank everyone who participated and those who sponsored this project, with special recognition to Sara Kay, Executive Director AIANE for her concerted effort from the initial idea through the final review.
It was intentional that the project covers the entire State of Nebraska with buildings which have influenced the culture or community in which they exist. It is often said that Architecture is a signature of our culture and it is the intent of this book to reinforce that idea through rich examples of regional vernacular over 150 years of history.
Hopefully everyone will find this to be an intriguing story over time illuminated with unique examples of our built environment.
Enjoy!
Managing people and places thru Architecture. They’re buildings but it’s really the people and what happens in the inside that counts .
