15 YEARS AND COUNTING...

JPES Partners: 15 years and counting….

JPES Partners started in 2009 as a one-person band with two shared clients. Technically we should have been called JPES Partner but as I explained to the advisory helpline at the then Department of Trade and Industry, this would sound ridiculous, and they allowed the ‘s’ due to our collaboration with third parties!

Our first Christmas party comprised of three and by our first anniversary party we were four. This week we hosted our 15th anniversary bash, with 26 employees and consultants working across some 50 clients or so. Quite a change.

What has been the secret of our success? First, the culture at JPES Partners. We have a hugely collaborative, flat structured, open-door environment within the firm. It allows for a fully committed, team approach to be applied to everything we do, with employees at all levels of seniority treated the way I would have wanted to be treated throughout my career. Clients come first, second, and third, in our activities; and in assessing the impact of our services we have a mantra that only clients are the judge of how successful we have been on their behalf.

Second, having a very clear, differentiated offering: specialist marketing communications services focused solely on the investment management and real assets/property sectors. It has not only allowed us to gain a deep understanding of the strategies and business plans of our clients but also to understand and be close to their underlying asset owner clients.

Third, careful diversification. We have successfully expanded into business development consulting, hiring leading figures from the investment management industry, and proprietary data and analysis, proving our expertise in understanding the drivers of our industry.

Fourth, a strong management team. Touching on this aspect in a little more depth, it has been a particular source of strength for the firm. Directors have been with JPES Partners an average of nine years, adding a complementary skillset to everything we do and also allowing long term succession planning to take place. Not every year has been easy, particularly in navigating Covid for example, but we have moved forward in each period, benefiting from a growing reputation for the quality of our work.

Lastly, of course, a sense of humour! Oh, the stories I could tell over the past 15 years, but discretion is the better part of valour… What I can say is forming JPES Partners was the best career decision I have ever made. I really like our industry, our clients, our employees, and coming into work each day, and that, in the end, is what really matters.
