15 Things That Will Excite You When You Travel Again

Like the rest of the world, we are not traveling as much during the pandemic, but when you are ready, we hope you turn to Colesville Travel as your main source of inspiration for your future travels. In the meantime, please stay safe and pay attention to the rules and regulations of the local authorities in the destination.
Wherever you are, I am sure you have experienced either a complete lockdown, partial lockdown, or some sort of quarantine for the past several months. With the world as we know it on pause, pretty much all travel has been either postponed, cancelled, or filled with rigid restrictions. If you love travel, like me, it’s only natural to be anticipating when we can travel safely again.
They say that when it comes to travel, it isn’t about the destination, but about the journey itself. You know what I am talking about, the excitement you feel when you start to plan your trip and the way you feel right before you leave. Like everything else in life, it’s really all the little things that count.
Here are 15 things that will excite you when you travel again:
1. The Excitement of Seeing “Reservation Confirmed”
I cannot wait to see those words “reservation confirmed!” I also look forward to the excitement of printing out my boarding pass and itinerary and reviewing all the last-minute details. That boarding pass is never going to look so good.
2. Anticipation of the Trip
Once a destination has been decided on, other things usually start to fall into place, and the planning process really begins. As a frequent traveler in the travel industry, I am always looking forward to my next adventure. When work gets busy and family life leaves you little time for yourself, a vacation is something everyone anticipates.
3. Deciding What to Pack for Vacation
Okay, so not everyone enjoys this, but it can be a lot of fun planning and shopping for new clothes to take on vacation. To me, it’s especially exciting packing for a trip to an exotic destination that I have never visited before. You know you want to look your best when you take pictures by the pool, beach, mountain resort or wherever your travels take you.
4. Getting Up Early in the Morning to Catch a Flight
I think I can speak for most of us, but the only reason any of us would be happy and willing to wake up at 4:00 a.m. is to catch a flight to some great destination and embark on a long, anticipated adventure.
5. Watching the Sun Rise and Set Through an Airplane Window
Have you ever posted or shared a picture from your airplane window? I am sure we have all done that. Glazing out of the window, watching the clouds go by, checking out the islands or mountains below from your window seat is one of the joys of flying. And what about the bonus of watching the sun rise or set?
6. Eating the Local Foods
Whether it’s a hot bowl of pho in Vietnam, moussaka in Greece, handmade pasta in Italy, or chicken tikka in India, food just tastes better where it comes from. Culinary tourism is extremely popular, and many people travel just to eat. So, if there’s a particular cuisine you love, there’s nothing quite like visiting that destination and indulging in the local cuisine.
7. Waking Up to Amazing Views
When you’re on vacation, there is nothing better than waking up and opening the curtains to an amazing view. Have you ever woken to see a view of the pyramids in Egypt, the Burj Arab in Dubai, the Indian Ocean, or Mount Kilimanjaro? When you travel, always remember to book a room with a view. With lockdowns and quarantines stretching into seven (7) months so far and potentially beyond, I will never take those views for granted again.
8. Checking into Amazing Resorts or Villas
Speaking of amazing views, one of the highlights of being on vacation is being able to stay at a resort you have always dreamed of. Depending on the type of traveler you are, you may be dreaming of staying at an over-the-water bungalow in Tahiti, a private villa with an affinity pool in the Maldives, a luxurious tent in Africa, a lodge in the jungles of Costa Rica or maybe even a humble eco-friendly homestay in Borneo. Whatever you choose or desire, when you finally get there, you will not take it for granted anymore.
9. Exploring New Cultures
When we travel, we open ourselves up to new cultures, we learn someone else’s history, and witness some of the most amazing things nature has to offer. We marvel at spectacular buildings like the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the temples in Bangkok, the pyramids in Egypt and we are astounded by what humankind has accomplished. These are just some of the things we look forward to when we begin exploring new places. You can read about it, hear about it, or watch a show about it, but nothing will beat experiencing it for yourself.
10. Making Friends Along the Way
When you travel you hear fascinating stories from fellow travelers? You also get to chat with like-minded people around the world and those who share your love of travel. Hopefully, you will make friends with a fellow foreigner. When you talk and make friends with the locals, they give you the inside story on what’s really going on in the city and help you avoid the tourist traps. You may even be fortunate enough to build lasting friendships with some of the people you have met while traveling. I know I have been fortunate to make many lasting friendships.
11. Spending Quality Time with Friends and Family
If you’re travelling with your partner or spouse, a vacation allows for focused ‘we time’. If you are traveling as a family, just seeing your child’s reaction when they see something that amazes them is enough to make the trip worthwhile. It also allows you to build relationships. If you’re a solo traveler, you will have the time to reflect and hopefully have quality time with yourself. If you are traveling with your friends, you can reconnect and talk about old times and things you did when you were younger. Travelling lets you disconnect from the world and gives you time to reflect on what is important in your life. Which brings us to our next point…
12. Disconnecting from Others and Social Media if We Choose
Not being able to understand all the conversations happening around you is not a bad thing. The news is filled with so much chaos and our lives are filled with so many distractions, on vacation we can tune out the chatter of others and just get lost in our own thoughts. We can stay focused on our own conversations with whomever we may be travelling with. You need to disconnect to be present, so putting that phone away for a few hours when on an adventure is certainly something to look forward to.
13. Not Having to Go to Work or School
If you’re a student, there is no homework. If you’re working, there is no work so technically no one should be bothering you. You are entitled and you deserve your time off, so enjoy it fully.
14. Discover Yourself and Try New Things
When you travel you are forced to step out of your comfort zone and push yourself beyond your limits. When you travel you will discover how far you are willing to go and you realize that you are stronger and braver than you thought. For example, do you have a fear of heights, water, or creatures? You may be compelled to try something new like horseback riding, skydiving, waterskiing, hot air balloon riding, or ziplining.
15. Creating New Memories
When you travel you will make memories that will last a lifetime. These memories will help you make stories that are worth telling and sharing. No one can take away your adventures and experiences, they will live in your mind forever. So, cherish the memories that you have made and look forward to the memories that you are going to make.
