15 of the Most Common Negative Beliefs Business Owners Have

Do you love what you do?

Yes, is my response and it is a question I ask new connections, prospects and clients, continually.

Being a business owner is hard, the challenges are the same if the business has a 15 million pound turnover or £50,000 turnover.

The main challenges include:

  1. ?? Financial risk: Running a business involves taking on financial risk, as the success of the business is dependent on factors such as revenue, expenses, and market conditions.
  2. ?? Business owners often have to invest their own money into the business, and there is always a risk of losing that investment.
  3. ?? Stress and pressure: Business owners are often under a lot of stress and pressure to make the business successful. They are responsible for making important decisions, managing employees, and ensuring that the business is profitable. This pressure can be overwhelming and can lead to burnout.
  4. ? Time management: Business owners often have to balance multiple responsibilities, from managing day-to-day operations to developing long-term strategy. It can be difficult to manage time effectively and prioritize tasks in a way that ensures the business is running smoothly.
  5. ??? Competition: Business owners need to be aware of the competition, and constantly strive to improve their products or services to remain relevant and competitive in the market.
  6. ?? Adapting to change: Business environment is constantly changing, business owners need to be able to adapt to new technologies, changing market conditions, and evolving customer needs.
  7. ???? Legal and regulatory compliance: Business owners are responsible for ensuring that their business is in compliance with all relevant laws and regulations, which can be time-consuming and complex.
  8. ?? Lack of stability: Business owners often have to deal with uncertainty, as the success of their business can be affected by a number of external factors, such as economic conditions, changes in consumer preferences, and competition.
  9. ?? Making difficult decisions: Business owners are responsible for making difficult decisions that can affect the entire organization. These decisions may be related to personnel, budget, marketing, and other aspects of the business.

With the right mindset, skills, and support, it is possible to overcome these challenges and achieve success.

When things get too much, our brains have this habit of tripping us up at every step with limiting beliefs or negative self-talk. Creating doubt, stress, anxiety, and lots more.

I work with a variety of businesses and business owners throughout the UK and North America and the Middle East and the statements might be slightly different yet they often fall into these 15 common limiting / negative belief patterns.

The key word is patterns, by understanding how to recognise when your mind is running a pattern of negativity you can create a mental and physical defense against it.

Practicing reframing your thoughts as you have them soon becomes a habit and it becomes unconscious conscious so much so you don't even notice you shutting down an internal thought negative thought pattern.

It is like picking up socks from the floor and putting them in the laundry basket, you might notice and grimace yet a minute later it is in the past.

Let's take a look at them, and tally up how many you have ever said to yourself even just once or lots of times.

I heard these often times too. What I find strange is that many consultants and freelancers don't even see/understand they are running a business which comes with much more than just delivering on their skills. They don't realize the sales, pre-sales, admin, prospecting, etc. angles of being in a business. I think these fuel a lot some the points made above

So on point Daniel Andersen-Tuffnell - I can attest to being guilty of some of these! As I am sure all business owners can. Like you say, it’s important to recognise your own patterns and learn to reframe them. Great reframes and different perspectives that you’ve shared here, love it! ??????

All true points Daniel Andersen-Tuffnell, starting and running a business is not easy. But when you do make it, and your business is successful and self sustaining it is a beautiful thing ?? A feeling of mental satisfaction, accomplishment, and financially rewards can not be beat.
