15 Life lessons for my 19 year old daughter starting her university

- Take your studies seriously, give it your best. Learning is important; absorption of concepts and fundamentals is what matters, not your grades. If you get good ones, celebrate. If not, go for better ones next time.

- Never stop learning, as it’s a continuous process. Even after you have a job and your own hard earned money, to grow in life you will need to be constantly learning.

- Pursue your calling, go after your passion, make a career out of what you really enjoy and want to do. Don’t wait till graduation to think about your career, start preparing from the first year! Time will fly. You must do internships, talk to your seniors, and be in touch with experts in your field.

- By the time you grow professionally, AI and ML will take up a lot of human jobs. Excel in a field where machines can’t replace the human elements of empathy, emotions and intelligence.

- Never give up! Failures will happen and happen often! Take risks, chase your dreams. Cliché to say but always relevant: “You don’t lose when you are knocked down, you lose when you refuse to get up”!

- Personal, professional ethics and integrity should be the foundation of your life. Move away from people and situations that lack ethics and integrity - I have myself done it and I am happy!

- Along the way you will meet people who will hurt you. Move away as far as possible. Forgive, forget and move on. I have personally moved on but not been able to forget and forgive though! Do this for me?

- Don’t stress too much. Ask yourself the simple question “will this matter 2-3-5 years down the line?”. If not, don’t stress too much. Although, stress in moderation is healthy!

- Make sure you are having fun along the way. Don’t forget to live your life while you build your life and career. Make memories!

- Choose your friends wisely; ultimately you will be the average of the five people closest to you.

- Party responsibly: this will have to be a promise!

- Dress well, dress relevant to the situation, and look smart always.

- Have one or two hobbies for life and excel in those. Reading, singing, dancing, sketching, trekking, whatever. Take time off to relax and pursue your hobby.

- And finally, be grateful and thankful to the Almighty that you are blessed to attend one of the best institutions in the world.

- Believe in the supreme power. Pray, and be grateful for everything!

Love this. I often think about what if I die unexpectedly, who will look out for my daughter the way I do? Who will share this type of advice with her? This post is a great reminder to say the things I want her to know, now. Don't wait. Never stop parenting. It all goes by faster than we think it will.

Apart from continuously learning it is equally important to unlearn and then start the learning process again.
