15 key considerations, even before mobile application development for your business.

With a record, 196 Billion android and 42 Billion iOS mobile app downloads having a growth of 80% YOY (reference: Statista), mobile apps have become one of the critical mediums for businesses to connect with their users.

From my experience working with multiple startups, enterprises, and technology enthusiasts over the past 16+ years, I found many of the founders of the area fails to have design thinking and correct strategy to connect with the right set of users.

1. Understand your product or service and target audiences?

Since the user looks into your mobile application multiple times in a day, it becomes a critical factor from a brand-building and user engagement standpoint. Understanding your own product/service, business profile, market, competition, and finally, target audiences is critical. The same product works differently in different geo-location or even different business models. There is a lot that can be researched over building a brand over the mobile application.

Example: Mobile application workflow and design for a car manufacturer are different than the one in the car dealership business. However, both of the companies are selling the same product.

Same way, user selection change based on demography, e.g., country, age, society, etc. One of the classic examples is, in the United States, Sports Utility Vehicles (SUVs) and Sedan cars are more popular, whereas, in India, hatchback cars are popular. In the United States, Do It Yourself (DIY) is popular here in South Asia, where people believe in service.

Let’s take one more example of age group… if your target audience is the young generation (20–45 years of age group), they are good and fast learners. You can afford to add multiple features within the same screen of the mobile app. If your user group is 60 + years of age.. it will become necessary to simplify the mobile app screen by giving as low as a single button to complete most of the interactivity.
