15 Days and Counting...

It’s hard to believe that we’re already counting the days until we leap into 2023. Having a countdown like this can be valuable and overwhelming if you let it. As imperfect leaders of ourselves and others, our inclination may be to focus on what we want to change for the future. I encourage you to focus on what to celebrate and what to take forward into the new year.

So let’s dive in with some questions to guide your reflection.

2022 Reflections

  • What goals did you set for 2022?? What are you proud of accomplishing?
  • If you picked a word of the year, how did it define what was most important for the year? Do you need to anchor to it for the last two weeks of the year?
  • What habits did you embrace or discard this year?
  • What did you realize throughout the year that was more or less important than you thought it would be?
  • What changes did you make throughout the year to your plans?
  • What is important that is still left to be done in 2022? Remember, this is not your to-do list, but the most important things you can say you focused on for 2022.
  • During this holiday season, how do you want to feel? How do you want to show up? How do you want others to feel when they’re with you? What will it take to make those behaviors real?
  • What did you realize this year that is important for you to carry into 2023 or leave behind in 2022?

There is no magic to what we accomplish within a calendar year. Life is fluid. We can change what’s important to us when it’s time to do it.

If we don’t accomplish a goal, we can continue it into the new year or decide that it really wasn’t a priority. The end of the year is not the end of anything besides 2022. The essential things in life continue on.

Make a true assessment of what the year has brought, how you want to finish it, and what you want to feel as you head into 2023.

This time of reflection shouldn’t be a place for judging yourself on what got done or was not done. That judgment won’t serve you. What will serve you is an intentional plan on how you want to lead yourself through the rest of 2022 and into 2023.

As imperfect leaders, we must focus on our intentions, create plans, act on the plans, and then navigate when things don't go as expected. This reflection exercise is one opportunity to do this.

Wishing you a happy holiday season!

Great to reflect up the past year to explore what you would like to do differently for next year. I know I am very much in that space and see next year as completely different then last year. Thank you for sharing!??

Wonderful reminder Melissa Carson. So many of us (myself included!) are are so focused on consuming more - more data, info, insights - that we lose sight of the intelligence behind us. #Reflection - especially at this time of year - is one of the greatest gifts we can give ourselves, and an amazing way to amplify our knowledge banks.

Only 15 days? That's so close! I like the questions you placed in the newsletter - particularly this one: What changes did you make throughout the year to your plans? As it is really good to take a look and see if you actually made changed you wished as if not, you get another chance in 15 days :)

I love this framework for being intentional about what is most important, how we want to show up and how we reflect on this year as well as transition into the New Year. Simple and thought-provoking. Thanks Melissa!
