At Futurebuild, collaboration is a core value that drives everything we do. Our primary goal is to unite the supply chain and provide a platform for knowledge sharing and learning. This is made possible through our partnerships with industry leaders, influencers, associations, manufacturers, suppliers and built environment professionals.
Today's newsletter exemplifies this collaboration as we bring you news from the industry, our partners and exhibitors.
We're not just an "exhibition," an "event," or "conference." We take pride in being more than that. Futurebuild is a dedicated platform, focused on helping the industry build a better future.

Steel production contributes to 9% of global carbon dioxide emissions, but the industry is shifting towards green steel plants to reduce emissions by 50% by 2050. The EU increased its green steel projects to 38 in 2023, and Germany invested $9.1bn in decarbonisation. Marks & Spencer's Oxford Street redevelopment plan has been rejected by Michael Gove, potentially setting a precedent for future demolish and rebuild projects. The decision, praised by Save Britain's Heritage, could damage the district's reputation as a global business destination. The London Property Alliance supports a retrofit-first approach to retain heritage and reduce embodied carbon but argues that decisions cannot be binary. The UK government's decision highlights the need for a more sustainable and environmentally responsible approach to regeneration projects.
Solar windows are a promising technology that harnesses the sun's energy to reduce energy consumption in buildings. Made from transparent solar cells, they generate clean, renewable energy, reducing energy consumption by 40%. They offer a unique opportunity to generate electricity in urban environments, and are indistinguishable from regular glass panes, making them attractive for architects and designers. While currently more expensive than traditional glass panes, economies of scale are expected to decrease, making solar windows more attractive for builders and homeowners.
Tata Group plans to build a 40GWh gigafactory in Bridgwater, UK, with £500m in incentives. The UK government's support for the electric car industry is crucial for growth and job creation. The investment secures thousands of jobs and ensures the UK's battery industry remains competitive in zero emissions. Tata chairman Natarajan Chandrasekaran praised the government's collaboration.
