$14k splurge at Chanel? Merci!

How well can you read me from my experience tagging along my girlfriends' shopping stop at Chanel at 42 Ave Montaigne?

It was my first time ever stepping into the world of luxury sales. At the age 42.

1. How do you like this space?I ABSOLUTELY dig it.It was a beautiful space. Marbled, recessed-lighting, mirrors all around. Walls and glass displays of handbags.Elegantly designed traffic flow.Soft to medium noise level. No overwhelmingly loud talking. No music.And the marbled toilet (see pic). Even that in itself emanated Chanel. Wow.
2. And how do you feel?You want to hear what is surprising?!! I didn’t feel out of place at all.I didn’t get any nasty glances. Or the insidious side glance in contempt of any eye contact. Or the being talked around as if I were invisible.The space was very congenial and cohesive. Even with a horde of twenty-something Chinese and Filipino tourists in sunglasses and skirts in the mix.
3. What was happening in this store?It was ran really smoothly.All the staff was well-dressed, polite and courteous to everyone.Most impressive person? Hands down - the attractive young Asian salesperson who tended to us. She was probably 22 or so. Relaxed yet self-assured.
4. Why was she striking to you?100%, I’d say her salesmanship. I was SUPER impressed.Her salesmanship was so impeccable, you don’t even realize you are being upsold.My friends came in to purchase two things. I’d say worth $2,300. Tops.Yet they ended up with a receipt grand totaling $14k (€13,3k). That’s SEVEN fold.
5. And why do you find that so intriguing?Just how everything flowed around this salesperson.She understood that the game and played it elegantly.She observed, she took mental notes, she took cues from our reactions, and she still kept a good pulse on the sales process.She was serving us but not catering to us.And in a way, I felt that she reflected the spirit of Coco Chanel. There is elegance even in this gigantic luxury sales industry.
