Little things matter. Yesterday, I made time choices.
It meant 10 minutes extra driving time. It meant rushing through dinner (roast instead of turkey that was already prepared for a special request) to leave a little early. It meant driving right by my drop off and the person there waiting early. But I had 15 minutes until drop off time. And a dad wanted one more hug and “I love you†before his son went back to his mom’s for the week. Five minutes. An important five minutes.
Then, I drove 10 minutes out of my way to a sports store for a specific gift for my grandson’s friend’s birthday. We could have given an online gift card for it, but the personal moment of giving and receiving would be lost. And they will play soccer with it together so the gift will have more meaning. A wise investment of 15 minutes.
Later, I found encouragement cards tucked away. This past month has been hard as we grieve the loss of a husband, father, grandfather, brother. I wrote a note to each one of them. 3-4 lines on a card.
A reminder of my love expressed in writing. A ‘just a because I love you’ kind of note and card. Well worth the 10 minutes to write the 5 notes.
What we each would give for a note like that from my husband who just died.
The sum total of all this time, maybe half an hour cumulative.
1/48th of my day.
And it is Sunday.
Not working. Just my choice time.
Not even necessary.
Just little life choices I faced.
I chose to give a little extra of me and my time.
5 minutes matter.
You have life choices on Sundays, too.
How do you invest this precious gift of time that you have?
Could you maybe rethink the time on one day of your week and invest 1/48th of it into special things for those you love?
Start somewhere. 1/48th of one day.
Then, let it grow and fill all week.

4 å¹´Thank You, dear Liz, for your wonderful thoughts you share with us. I could not agree more that we always have to challenge ourselves to stop for a minute, think over and ask ourselves: do I spend valuable time with my kids, with my family ...or just running all day long and do daily routines. You are a true giver and I see you are energized by giving. (I have the same attitude).
