?? Underwater kite generates green electricity in the Faroe Islands

Minesto 's Dragon 12 is a 28-ton subsea kite that is powered by underwater currents. The drone-like device is connected to a cable that is anchored to the sea floor. As the Dragon ‘flies’ underwater in a figure of eight, it moves a turbine under the wings that generates endless clean energy.?

Conservation Win of the Week

?? England’s River Mersey bounces back?

“Europe’s greatest river recovery” has taken place in North-West England. A recent survey found the highest levels of species to date, living in the River Mersey, including rays, scorpion fish, eel and the rare bluemouth rockfish.

For 200 years the river was a dumping ground for industrial pollution, but since the early 1990s huge amounts of money and effort has been spent on cleaning it up and it's on track to fully recover if sewage and microplastics can be kept at bay.

???? David Borbón & Ana María Peralta

The couple have been tirelessly planting mangroves in Mexico’s Baja Peninsula. Over the past 12 years they’ve planted an estimated 1.2 million seedlings and transformed stretches of bare sand into green. Mangroves are incredible carbon sinks and offer shelter to an array of important fish and bird species.?
