130,000 school children in England cannot read after six years of schooling. HOW is this possible in 2015 ?

How could it be that on the 1st Nov 2015, I read in a British newspaper that 130,000 children cannot read at an acceptable level, after six years of schooling?

In “The Illusion of Education” and “Mediation: Crafting the Intelligence of the Child” I explain the importance for parents and for school teachers to develop storytelling with children. But, storytelling has far more importance in the development of a child’s intelligence than we may think.

As I explain  in my books stories:

  • increase the number of words children know.
  • raise a child’s familiarity with words.
  • cause children to recognise how words link, and so give words higher levels of association.
  • improve a child’s ability to more readily grasp a meaning given to them.
  • teach children how to put a series of events in order, to present their meaning.
  • improve their awareness that different people want to hear their mind in different ways.
  • teach them how to better formulate their thoughts.
  • improve their level of articulation, and means of expression.
  • inspire their imagination. Imagination inspires the confidence to want to explore. In turn, this creates the courage for the child to take risks, and thereby develop through mistakes learned.

The misguided ones who think that one size fits all. A terrible price being paid for social engineering gone badly wrong.
