13 Steps to Calculate The Concrete Mix Ratio

Step 1:Confirm the main parameters

The main parameters in the mix design of self-compacting concrete include the loose volume of coarse aggregate in the mixture, the volume of sand in the mortar, the water-binder ratio of the slurry, and the amount of mineral admixture in the cementitious material.

Step 2:Amount of coarse aggregate

Set the loose volume "V" of coarse aggregate in 1m3 concrete (0.5~0.6m3), and calculate the amount "m" of coarse aggregate in 1m3 concrete according to the bulk density "p" of coarse aggregate.

Step 3:Densified volume of mortar

Calculate the dense volume of 1m3 concrete coarse aggregate according to the apparent density of coarse aggregate, and calculate the dense volume of mortar by subtracting the dense volume of coarse aggregate from the total volume of 1m3 mixture.

Step 4:Compact volume of sand

Set the volume content of sand in the mortar (0.42~0.44m3), and calculate the dense volume of sand according to the dense volume of mortar and the volume content of sand.

Step 5:Amount of sand

Calculate the amount of sand in 1m3 concrete according to the dense volume of sand and the apparent density of sand

Step 6:Densified volume of slurry

Subtract the compacted volume of the sand from the volume of the mortar to obtain the compacted volume of the slurry.

Step 7:Determine the water-binder ratio

Determine the water-binder ratio according to the design strength grade of the concrete.

Step 8:Apparent density of cementitious material

Set the volume of the mineral admixture in the cementitious material according to the durability of the concrete, temperature rise control, etc., and calculate the apparent density of the cementitious material according to the volume ratio of the mineral admixture and cement and their respective apparent densities. density.

Step 9:Total consumption of cementitious materials and unit water consumption

Calculate the volume ratio of water and gelling material from the apparent density and water-binder ratio of the gelling material.Then calculate the total amount of gelling material and unit water consumption according to the volume of the slurry, the volume ratio and the volume of the gelling material and water.The total dosage range of cementitious materials should be 450~550kg/m3, and the unit water consumption should be less than 200kg/m3.

Step 10:Amount of cement and mineral admixtures

According to the volume of the cementitious material and the volume of the mineral admixture and their respective apparent densities, the amount of cement and mineral admixture per 1m3 of concrete is calculated respectively.

Step 11:Admixture selection

Step 12:Preliminary mix ratio

According to the above-mentioned steps and scope, calculate the preliminary mixing ratio.

Step 13:Inspection

When mixing and mixing self-compacting concrete, it should be checked whether the workability of the mixture meets the requirements in the table below. The minimum mixing volume of each tray of concrete should not be less than 25 liters.
