#13 - NO SPECIFIC STRATEGIC PLAN FOR RETURN BUSINESS
In my opinion, the only thing that builds a lasting business, is return clients. I genuinely believe that every new client will not only remain with me forever, but become a life-long friend as well. Therefore, I under promise on my projections and over deliver on my execution and delivery. It is impossible to over-charge or under-deliver, if you truly plan on maintaining that relationship for a lifetime. There is no better source of new business, than a referral from a satisfied client. In this era of empty promises and get rich quick schemes, nothing builds a more positive brand, than the old-school creed: Be honest; be fair; say what you’ll do directly; then do what you say.
I have to add one more point: As your business grows, please don’t forget the smaller clients who contributed to your success. Those people can be an invaluable resource to you, even if their business isn’t directly profitable any longer. Since they’ve known you for a long time, they can offer valuable testimonials and opinions on new products or services. Treated with the proper respect, they can and will continue singing your praises as another satisfied customer.
