13 Miles in 4 Weeks

13 Miles in 4 Weeks

Have you found exercising beneficial to your work life balance? In September, I will be taking part in my first ever Half Marathon and have found the training benefits amazing!

On September 22nd 2019, Iain Jones and myself will be participating in the SimplyHealth Great East Run - a total of 13.1 miles taking us through the scenic delights that Ipswich has to offer.

For a seasoned runner such as Iain, I'm sure it will be a walk in the park (not literally) but for myself, this will only be the 2nd time I have taken part in an official event; my first being a 5k run in June as part of the Birketts Race 4 Business.

As gruelling as the thought of squeezing in the time to run 3-4 times a week in between my work schedule, weekly football training and matches, the benefits to my working life have been great!

I have always been a bit of a compartmentaliser. When I am in work I am fully focused and work to 100% of my efforts without distractions and when I am home, I have the ability to switch off from work and enjoy my personal time.

I'm not a morning person by any stretch of the imagination but the mornings when I do drag myself out of bed at 6am to get some miles in the tank, I have found that I am coming into work sharper in the mornings and with more energy. Likewise when I choose to run in the evenings, it gives me a great chance to unwind mentally from work and aiding me to compartmentalise my free time and work.

As lighthearted as I may make it sound training for a half marathon, I have set myself a clear goal to achieve as well as a fundraising target and will be running in the aid of the Stroke Association; a charity close to the hearts of Rutherford Briant and many members of the team here.

With less than 4 weeks now until the race date I am looking to ramp up the intensity of my training and my fundraising efforts. Any donations, regardless of the amount would be greatly appreciated and welcomed by myself on https://justgiving.com/fundraising/hunter-wallis where you can also read my story behind choosing to run for this given charity.

Keep an eye on my posts to find out if I reach my target of completing the race in 1 hour and 30 minutes...
